I had an interview on Wednesday for a public sector employer, one of the competency based questions was can you give me an example of your ability to develop and apply creative solutions to problems, I was not expecting a question like that, so i froze and after a long pause and a big drink of water the best answer I could…

I dislike competency based interviews but have a whole host of possible situations in my head! Some of them are made up.

I find the private sector uses these less than the public sector. My last couple of private sector job interviews were more like a chat! The guy doing the interview said "well we are meant to tick some boxes so I'll ask you a couple of questions and make the rest up."
