Hi,
I have a who lives in a rented accommodation and she gets housing benefits paid to her. The house she lives in is a good house but the front living room window could do with being replaced to something that traps the heat in the house better and the existing window consists of a single glazed window within a used wooded frame. She has contacted the LL who has said that he does not have the budget to replace this but has agreed to carry out some plumbing upgrades. My question is would she be entitled to any other help regarding the front window or should she speak to the LL again?
Thanks

AFAIK you cannot get help to make improvements to a rented house (New windows etc)
There is however a warm homes scheme, which could potentially help with insulation

There's a new scheme coming in to help people who are living in fuel poverty. Think it starts in April. Window replacement will be considered, (unlike with Warm Homes) but they'll look at other, cheaper ways of improving the fuel efficiency before they'll resort to this type of expensive action. It's called the Affordable Warmth scheme - landlords will have to contribute to the costs of the improvements though. If your friend wants to find out more, have her contact Building Control in her local council.
Also, this scheme replaces Warm Homes, so if she wants to take advantage of the measures in that scheme she needs to apply quickly. Warm Homes closes in March0 -
