It's effectively a ccj issued 'on the nod' without you getting a chance to defend a claim.
The courts accept by assumption that the council will have offered you the chance to appeal.
The process seems unfair to me but is routinely used.
The council can now enforce the order in any way they choose, including the court bailiff. If over £600 I see no reason that they could not use a High Court bailiff in theory too. They may however be looking at an attachment to earnings.
It is probably best to contact them and see if they will accept a payment plan, or if this is part of a bigger picture find a strategy to deal with your debts as a whole.
This is now a priority debt because of the enforcement options.0 -
I understand a bit more now, thank you. Can they refuse any offers I make, and go straight to the Court Bailiff? The amount is just over £2000, which include solictitor / court fees etc.0

Is a court Bailiff / high court Bailiff the same?
What do they do, that's different from a normal bailiff?0 -

Hi Red,
If you are asking about how long before bailiffs take action, I think it depends on the client, maybe someone will know.
Hope SC were able to offer you some useful advice, come back here if not.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
