The threat to abolish RPI or tinker with how it is measured amounts to more government interference in pension. It seems that government would reduce various liabilities by down stating inflation.

A move to CPI would cause a huge headache for the government’s Debt Management Office, which handles the sale of bonds issued by the Treasury. Around a quarter of the government’s debt is index linked to the RPI measure of inflation.

I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

Seems a bit swings and roundabouts but I would say, overall, a pension linked to RPI has been a better bet:
Is there another version of CPI that includes housing as well?

When Mr Brown introduced CPI as his preferred measure of inflation, lots of financial writers pointed out that this would prove to be the whole point of it.Free the dunston one next time too.0
