George Foreman Grills - are they worth it?

Options
I don't want to accumulate many gadgets in my kitchen but I have heard good things about the George Foreman grills. As I live alone a small one would suffice so shouldn't take up much room, even less than my slower cooker I would have thought.

The thing is I am still struggling with the combi microwave and am just using the microwave part (food just doesn't taste the same as in the normal oven). Then I find I am putting on the big oven just for one small piece of fish or chicken and it seems a waste.

Can you cook fish in GF grills aswell as meat? Are they easy to clean and store? Or would I be better off just using my frying pan for fish and chicken and save the oven in that way

I was given a George Foreman grill - admittedly it is the huge one and it just sits in the cupboard doing nothing. I never cook fish so don't know if you can cook fish on it, the grill plates are easy to clean though.

I use my slow cooker and occasionally my oven but when I do use the oven I make sure that I do some baking too so that the oven is full. I do not have a Combi microwave just an ordinary one which I use for reheating mainly. I also have a Remoska (I used it when I had a flat and no gas) that I use occasionally - the standard sized one suits me and I use it sometimes for cupcakes, jacket potatoes and cooking chicken. That also lives in the cupboard but comes out more often than the George Foreman grill.

If I want to fry something then I will use a frying pan and either pour a bit of olive oil onto some kitchen paper and use that to wipe around the pan or I spray on some FryLight - nothing is too greasy then.

I live on my own and love my George Foreman grill (it's the tiny one so hardly takes up any space). It's so handy when I get in from work and just want one chicken fillet etc. I also do toasted sandwiches on there. I can see they perhaps wouldn't be as useful for a family. If you were cooking food for a whole family you may as well heat up the oven.

I love my George foreman grill and use it regularly. We normally cook sausages and burgers on it, as it cooks two sides at once, plus it drains the fat away.

We also have one at work, as we aren't allowed a toaster, because of the smoke. We all use it for toast or toasters.

Doesn't the cheese run out? Do you have to prop up the front legs?

my ordinary sandwich toaster died and I kept looking round for a single one but found nothing and
I had a brainwave and did one in my George Foreman.

Great stuff and and to be honest, I think I would wrap fish in foil before cooking it on
a GF, cant see a problem at cooking any thing on it to be honest.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I love mine and use it for chicken, sausages, fish in breadcrumbs, toasties and steak. I also do slices of aubergine and courgette and grill peppers and onions in small amounts. It's much quicker and easier than using the grill and I dont have to remember to turn things over!

When I had one, I did use it a lot for sausages and the like, liked the fact the fat ran out into a tray, but when it dies, I didn't but a new one and don't miss it.

My brother has a halogen oven and always seems to be using it. We live together and I've seen my mum use it and she rates it. I just need to get my head around it though.

No. What sort of cheese are you using that would get that runny! I use a slice of mature cheddar and it melts, but never budges.

I dont think I ever tried it. I just thought with cheese being fatty and the grill on a slope it wouldnt work. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I cant believe I have had it for twelve years and not known I could use it for toasties! :D
