Light footprint credit checks

Hi all

When we were doing an initial application for a mortgage promise from Halifax the adviser said that she would need to do a credit check. She mentioned specifically that this check had a "light footprint" and that it would only show up on our credit files for 30 days.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct - that the lookup will be invisible by this time next month? I only ask because I know multiple credit lookups can look bad and we will potentially want to speak to other mortgage companies in the coming months

Thanks

S

  • normal terminology is 'soft footprint' - not visible to other lenders and therefore does nothing bad to your credit history

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • The period a soft footprint stays on a report varies by reporting source - but as it is 'information only' for the file owner that is really academic.
