Low Flying Aircraft Disrupting My Journey.

Why oh why are low flying aircraft allowed to affect my journey around the M25? This problem is especially accute on the stretch near the M4 intersection, with large aircraft overflying the road, darkening the sky and distracting my concentration.

Can these aircraft not stop or maintain a holding pattern until such time as there's a clear space on the M25, so they can overfly it and continue on to where ever they go. Or at the very least, if that' not possible can't the authorities divert them around the M25 until they find a safe spot to cross.

I have a sneaking suspicion some of these flights carry cyclists too, so yet again they're trying to trump their right of way over those of innocent blighted motorists.

But, armyknife, as an aeroplane passenger, I've paid my Air Tax and so we have a right to travel in the airspace in whatever way we please. Sure, some locals might argue that the tax goes to general taxation and there are many disadvantages that they suffer due to the noise from the flights, but they're freeloading, taking advantage of a historical loophole - they haven't paid any contribution to the management of the space above their houses, whereas we've paid our Air Tax!
  • The obvious answer is to use a motorway that is free of low flying aircraft. May I suggest the M69, you would be able to travel free of any such distractions.

Somewhat tongue in cheek I'd say.

I think the M69 is too close to both BHX and EMA for this to be completely true. I'd suggest the M80, which is far enough from GLA and EDI to avoid low flights, or the M50 which doesn't have any large airport nearby.

Hmm I wonder if armyknife and modsandmockers are the same person? Can there really be more than one of them?

But then you do get the RAF hedge hopping along the M50 occasionally
  • Yes, M50 is far better option, especially as it takes armyknife a very long way away from moi.

You could try the sretch of the M4 between Reading and Swindon. No low flying planes there, especially now that Lyneham's closed.

Another thing I could never understand is why the Queen built Windsor Castle right under the flight path to Heathrow!
