Selling CDs & DVDs?

Have a whole load of CDs (75-100) and some DVDs that I'm looking to "liquidate". Had some on PlayTrade with limited success a while back, but now that's done with. Can't really be doing with listing & mucking about for !!!!!! all on Amazon/eBay so what my options?

Keep seeing ads for MusicMagpie and Ziffit but what can you expect to get for mid-late 90s chart CDs in near perfect nick? Are we talking 20p each or something equally ridiculous? Any alternatives. not looking to get rich but surely £1 is achievable??

I'd say a carboot is probably the best option. You'll probably struggle more with CDs (especially singles) unless they're rare or the latest albums. DVDs should sell quite well at £1-2 (possibly more for boxsets or newer releases).

I honestly don't think £1 is a realistic amount for an old CD. I sent some of mine to MusicMagpie and got 30p each, the rest I tried to car boot- and in the end was down to 5 for £1 and even then I still gave dozens to a charity shop as they wouldn't sell.

Is there much of a market for 15-20 year old CDs? Why are you selling them?

I hope you can get a reasonable price for them, but as Flyonthewall and soolin say, I think you will struggle.

    Reasonable prices too.

WBB are excellent! Taking the DVDs to CEX can often result in a higher price. But you're realistically looking at 25p per DVD, unless they're something special or current and in demand. I wouldn't expect a great deal for CDs these days, most people download. If you don't want to put the effort in on eBay or Amazon, then you're going to have to take a lower price and let the person that is prepared to do that take the profit! You could also try Facebook as a selling option with no fees.

  • Hi, first of all personally I wouldn't use Music Magpie. I use Ziffit myself. As for value then yes you are basically talking somewhere in the region of 15-30p per CD. Don't whatever you do take them to Cash Converters.

What's wrong with cash converters? I got a good deal once trading in there and that was on VHS tapes after they'd stopped buying and selling them lol. Nothing rare either. Another time I went there to trade in the price was better elsewhere, but they were willing to consider price matching, it's just the price I'd found was too high for them to go to. When I went to see what price they'd give for some old games their prices were no worse then elsewhere.

Their prices overall are pretty much the same as anywhere else.

There's nothing specifically wrong with them, I've just always managed to get a better deal elsewhere.

If they are old popular chart cds then certainly advice as above.

If they were more obscure then it can be surprising what out of print CDs can sell for on eBay/Amazon.

That sounds like there's something really bad. A warning to stay away. Don't ever go there. Why not just say "I wouldn't bother with cash converters personally, you can usually do better elsewhere"?

With any place like that they'll give more for certain items than others. If there's a shop nearby it's worth popping in. They may price match or happen to give more for an odd item.
