There is a revealing analysis which corroborates much of what you have been saying about dependency on oil here.
The UK produces >750,000 bbl/day of crude, the majority of which you could reasonably assign to Scotland. That's about 280,000,000 bbl/year which at the current price of $56.60 is the best part of $16bn.
As Scottish GDP is about $220bn, that oil makes up more than 7.25% of GDP. Of course the year before that oil would have been valued at about $30bn.
For some reason STD seems to think that a 7th of economic output halving in value isn't a big deal. I'm not sure if that's bluster or innumeracy.0 -
Just watched sturgeon talking to the faithful in glasgow. Do they only have white people in Scotland?
Pretty much
http://www.healthscotland.com/equalities/race/index.aspxAsian or Asian Scottish/British are the largest ethnic minority group at 2.1% of the population of Scotland, followed by Mixed/Multiple ethnic groups (0.5%), Other ethnic group (0.5%), African (0.4%), Arab (0.1%) and those of Caribbean or Black (0.1%) ethnicity
There are more what used to be called 'ethnic minorities' in Lambeth (pop > 250,000) than in Scotland.0 -

It's both....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

"current price", "last year"... you're still stuck predicting doom forever over one/two bad years. I thought you were an economist ?
4 March 2015The Scottish economy will continue to pick up pace, despite the lower oil price having an adverse impact on the oil and gas industry.
The Fraser of Allander Institute's regular forecast shows the boost to oil users in Scotland outweighs the harm to North Sea producers.
The institute said tightening public spending could still hurt the economy.
But it said "strengthening" investment was a reason to expect higher growth than it had forecast in November.
and look here's Hamish's favourite guy again...However, analysts pointed out that low oil prices, while bad news for the oil and gas sector, could in fact boost wider recovery in Scotland as consumers raise spending and investment picks up.
Brian Ashcroft, emeritus professor of economics at Strathclyde University, said: "The falling oil price and recovering investment could provide a welcome boost to the recovery just as there are signs of some slowing in the rate of growth in most major economies except the US, and as the troubles in the eurozone worsen with the increased risk of deflation and a distinct threat of Greece exiting the euro.
"The absence of good data and uncertainty about future oil prices allow only a crude estimate of the impact on the Scottish economy of the fall in oil prices."
Crude estimates from analysts. While both you and Hamish seem to have it all worked out down to the last pound and fixed as it is for years ahead too ? Hmmmm.. something definitely not right there. Both of you truly must be the only psychic 100% accurate economists around.;)
Like I've said, there's a much wider picture both ecomomically and politically both of you seem only too happy to ignore. But that's up to you.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Once again you are taking opinion pieces and spinning them as fact, rather as your political heros do.
As a person who is numerate and not an idiot I can see that the price of Scotland's major export has halved and that is a serious problem for Scotland. You can try to spin that as good news if you like and it would explain most of the rest of the rubbish you post on here.0 -

I'm just doing what you do in your posts string ? I haven't seen much in the way of your own personal spreadsheets appearing here either ? When you do post one, I'll have no problem apologising to you for my misjudgement. Until then.. the only meaningful phrase I can think to cover it is... 'jog on'.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
