Any hope when you start a job sick?

Just wonder, anyone found themselves starting a job unwell (likes of a cold which is doing no justice to trying to work!) and did you come through it? :o

If its just a cold then it will only last a few days, surely? I'm sure people will be able to see that you are not well but have made the effort to go in anyway and will make allowances. You'll be OK in a day or two.

Can't see how a simple cold could jeopardise a new job.

If you're feeling lousy when you start the new job let them know immediately. Make a joke of the fact that you've got the job and you feel bad about not being able to give your best at the start.

With my current job a week in I collapsed and ended up in hospital for 4 days and was off for a month - still work there 6 years on

My first ever job I turned up on my first day with concussion from playing rugby earlier in the day!

I was only 16, I was too terrified not to go to my first shift, so I went in...finished at 10pm, got rushed to hospital and kept in overnight. The worst thing was I couldn't remember anything about it all - including my training... luckily they understood, and it was easy to pick up. Worked there a few years before I moved to a different job.

  • Thanks guys, I spoke to them more as they asked if I wasn't well today, think I was over thinking this as there was something else going on in the department that I actually hadn't appreciated so glad I didn't down tools thinking it was me being unwell causing the atmosphere, it wasn't all me! anyway I'm definitely going back next week :)

Have started a number of jobs feeling like warmed up death and where phoning in sick just isn't feasible, so resorted to throwing the entire contents of a Boots shelf down my neck and getting on with it.
