How/ Why did you start comping???

I started comping last year as I wanted to win a holiday for my five grandchildren. I subsequently found that the holidays on offer would not accommodate five children and three adults during school holidays. As we could not afford to take the children away I started to take notice of prizes of toys, books etc instead. In fact anything that might make nice presents or treats for the children. I have had some success concentrating on these competitions. Previously my spare time was spent researching my family tree but I have neglected that since I started comping. I really want to pick up my research again but it is hard to stop doing comps although I find genealogy equally addictive when I trace another piece of the family jigsaw. I need to rethink my time management in 2015 so I can do both.0

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. Sax you made me laugh....i can assure you i wont be putting anything on ebay.
I am inspired by the i won board and completely amazed at what others have won.
I hope you are all very lucky this year, and if a win puts a smile on your face then its definitely worth it!

I was reading a thread on another forum about what people have won and it was mentioned on there about people the posters knew of who had won things, but had put in time and effort. I decided I wanted to have a go. Found a few comps and when googling for an answer I found here.
Apart from Mag dailies all comps are now through here. I dont enter everyday as sometimes I simply cant be bothered. I used to enter loads a day and had 2 or 3 wins a month. Now Im averaging a win about every other month, but that is simply down to not having the motivation to do much ATM. Its something I do when I am bored TBH.Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:0 -
I started when I was on maternity with my youngest child after braving the jump from the freebie boards to comps, over time it has become a really positive part of our lives.
We all look for competitions, our children understand the notion of winning and losing - but always trying, no matter what and most of all it has been a nice distraction between my OU modules,
Good luck everyoneWishing you all good luck!

I started about 30 years ago when you found entry forms in shops or on packets and had to make up slogans. I pretty much gave up when my children were young. Then my teenage daughter became ill with ME and I started looking for competitions online for her to enter to give her something fun to do when she couldn't get out of bed. We had a little bet between us, to see who could be the first to win a big prize worth £100 or more. She won the bet and we both carried on entering competitions for a while. She has since made a full recovery, but my health has got worse, so whilst she now seldom enters any competitions, unless I tell her about one for a concert she would really like or something, I now spend a lot of my spare time entering them.0

I started comping when my health gave up on me, I was just looking for something to occupy myself with as I was beyond bored and stuck in a chair all day. I think possibly it came about that someone on one of the the debt free wannabe challenge threads mentioned comping so I had a quick look, entered a few (DH was very unsupportive of my new hobby as 'everyone knows no-one wins these comps!') had a small win, can't remember what it was, think it might have been a book or something
but I was hooked from then on. DH suddenly became a huge comping supporter when I got a letter through the post saying i'd won an xbox 360, water proof camera, watch and laptop  our DS had an amazing christmas that year, never seen a child smile like he did when he opened that xbox, he had wanted one for ages but as I couldn't work we were on a tight budget so he wouldn't ask for it

I started comping in Dec 2012, I've saved all my holidays (4wks) that year and when our factory had shut down for Christmas for 2wk I had 6weeks off.
9 wins in 2013 most notable £75 amazon voucher
19 in 2014 - £500 M&S voucher, Justin Timberlake show in O2
I enter comps to win prizes I wanna keep, if I won something very pricey or popular I would sell it to fund my car loan overpayment0 -

I started last October due to an operation - thankfully I was fit for work 2 weeks later.
I'm really happy with what I have won so far...
I tend not to enter comps that don't appeal to me or my immediate family (partner and son) but still spend hours with an ipad on my lap every evening. :rotfl:
I enter approx 400 per week...I love it and can't imagine giving it up now though.
I also like reading the I won I won thread because it spurs me on when I'm feeling a little deflated.
A big thank you to all those who provide the competitions :TCount your Blessings, not your Problems
2014: £420
2015: Bluetooth Speaker (£100) :rotfl:0
