3 for 2 Advice

I'm looking for some advice re. a 3 for 2 offer on Skylanders figures, my son got given money to buy some figures for Christmas, we shopped around and the best deal with could find with Smythe's Toys, (I was trying to teach him that if your patient and don't just rush into buying in Toy's R Us you can get better value for money!!) I have received confirmation of order from them and they have taken payment however this evening I got an email from them saying that one of the sets is out of stock and will not be dispatched.

I queried when it would be and they have said the order has been amended and we will not be receiving, the thing is if it hadn't have been three for two we would have gone else where, they have essentially refunded nothing as they have changed the order to 2 items which no longer qualify for the deal and my lesson to my son is being lost somewhere along the lines.

Has anyone got any advice please

how much were they in toys r us - were they the same price as the othr shop you were looking at buying at -
surely you could order a different one (that's in stock) and contact toys r us to get it added to your order?
