Written Warning for Lateness

The only reason I can think of that OP can't just leave earlier is if they are paying for childcare and feel it unreasonable to pay for an extra 30 minutes, or whatever.
That was not mentioned, I just know a few people on a tight budget who resent paying extra, but really, no work journey can be guaranteed at all.
Quite possibly but that is not the employer's problem.
Granted, some employers may have shown more flexibility but if they choose to play hard ball, as it seems they have, they are quite entitled to do so.0 -
As virtually everybody else has said - get the earlier bus and put your feet up for 20 minutes with a cup of coffee and the paper. If you lived in a rural area with limited transport you might be getting a more sympathetic hearing.
Arriving late for work 8 times in 40 working days is not going to be well received by any employer.0 -
This letter is a formal warning of the discipline issues you have had recently. We are extremely disappointed by the way you deal with the work after many serious talks and warnings. In particular your excessive lateness, your failure to come to work on time.
It then lists the dates.
As mentioned in previous talk and warnings this could lead to the termination of your employment. As you are aware from previous communication this is a disciplinary matter. I must advise you this might be considered an act of gross misconduct which could result n the summary termination of your employment.
I have highlighted one letter. because that letter is telling. It's an "s". You have had a number of discussions with management about your attitude to work and your lateness is ONE of those issues.
There is only one piece of advice worth giving - fix your attitude. All of it. Over everything and not just the lateness. The lateness is ONE thing. Don't fix all of it and you will be out. It's that simple. They are picking off the worst of the issues - not all of them. They could have gone for all of them and you probably would be out. They are actually giving you a shot at fixing it. Most employers wouldn't.0 -
My daughter gets a lift to school but gets there at 8:15 rather than the 8:50 she has to be there for. She does homework etc. I walk to work and make it through the door with 5 mins to spare but I have to drop off little ones at school and can't leave till the teachers are in the playground. But I knew I could make it on time. When I was working further away and had to drive I used to allow an extra 20 minutes just in case anything happened on the road. I'd get to work early and have a coffee before starting. No great hardship:)Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34
