Contacts - they seem expensive, I used to pay £19 a month, but got 12 months supply for £75 at ASDA online.

i have a pretty hard to find prescription, i have looked on specsavers today and they don't do it.

the amount includes aftercare and half prices glasses, which saved me over £200 at the start of the year, so im not sure whether i'm tied in to them because of this or not.

Really nosey --sorry --but why is he not entitled to incapacity benefit as this is not based on your income

    its okay.

he hasn't had enough NI contributions, there is a loop hole that if you were in education instead of working between the ages of 21-22 (which is the two years prior to him getting sick) you can't claim it. eduction previous to this you can claim (he was on JSA then). so he's in limbo basically, on an 18 month waiting list for treatment.

Try again but get expert help from someone at CAB or a welfare rights officer from SS to fill it in with him,---I have worked in mental health for years and people get it for all sorts of reasons --it is about how the form is worded in terms of daily support

    Interest etc.

Avon Debt: £370 left, £33.30 a month, no interest.

OU Loan: £51 a month over 6 months. i have applied for the fees to be paid but have to maintain payments until a decision is made.

HSBC Managed Loan: about £1000 left, £80 a month, i think the rate is about 16% APR.

Capital One: £1250 balance, about £60 a month, 29.9% APR
Egg: £700 left, £18 a month, not sure on the interest as i can't get into the account, i think its about 16% APR
    Co-Op Bank: £890 balance, £18 a month payment, 9% APR
    Co-Op Reducing Overdraft: £680, £20 a month.
Dorothy Perkins Card: £600 balance £25 a month payment, 29.9% APR
Debenhams Card: £230 balance, £10 a month payment, 29.9% APR
La Redoute: £250 balance, £20 a month payment, APR not on the bills, but would assume its similar to the GE Capital ones above.

    Here's hoping on the OU.

Do Housing Ben & CTB have the same thresholds as WTC? Worth an application anyway?

Sounds like OH is caught right in the middle - this is so unfortunate. Here's hoping he improves soon. Could he concentrate enough to do on line surveys & click throughs on quidco & pigsback? Wouldn't bring in much, but the odd £10 Boots voucher would let him treat you occasionally - and that would lift both your spirits.

I agree with calamity - welfare rights are v good at knowing how to fill forms in - give them a go.

Not a nice topic - but have you considered bankruptcy? As you have little of value, and your credit rating is probably shot to pieces it may be a option - particularly as OH has a long wait for treatment so there appears to be no upturn on the financial front in sight (sorry to depress you :grouphug:, keep your pecker up).
    Debt 17 12 06 - £7700. 1st Feb 07 £6903, getting there ;) 1st March 07 £6666 (yikes!) 1st April 07 £6329 17.8% 1st May £6085.48 21%, 1st June £5522.13 28.3%, 1st July £5194.46, 32.54%, 1st Aug £4700, 39%, 1st Sept £4411, 42.7% :j :j:j

i would lose my job if i went down the bankruptcy route and to be honest, my rating isnt *that* bad.. i keep an eye on it through experian and i haven't defaulted on anything for over six months now. im going to try and apply for a 0% transfer in the next month or so and see if that gets me anywhere to get rid of the Capital One card.

re the benefits, i've applied for council, housing etc, everything there is and can't get any. unfortunately they don't take outgoings into account, wouldn't be a problem if they did...

the doctor has got him moved to the priority waiting list now, but he's at the bottom of that one (if you see what i mean) which could take about 6 months. he's picked up a mystery shop today (he can do ones where he doesn't have to talk to people) which is good for his confidence. will suggest he signs up for some more survey companies.

    cheers for your help.

Don't forget that you can pay water and Council Tax over 12 months not just 10.

Don't need to tell them a reason just say it helps you to budget easier.

I also agree about the food you can cut by at least £50. And make that part of the budget grocery shopping only. Budget works do's etc from other money.

    All the best.
