New Job - Overpayment

O.K. I need some help!

I started a new job (working only part time) in the middle of February. I received a payslip for the end of the month, and I had only worked half of the month. These are the details from it:

Basic Pay: £194.86

Deductions:
Tax Paid: £40.26
NI: £0.00
Pension 6%: £11.69

Net Pay: £142.91

OK, so in March and each month thereafter, I worked the whole month, and my payslip was as follows:

Basic Pay: £545.61

Deductions:
Tax Paid £10.90
NI £12.17

Net Pay: £522.04

Of course, I have definitely overpaid tax in my first month of working half of it (& was probably on an emergency tax code)

My question to someone is, how much have I overpaid in tax from these details, and what do I exactly need to do to claim it back.

    you need to add

    a. your tax code for each month

    b. your total earnings and your total tax paid in the tax year up to the time you started your new job in feb

    Tax Code - First Month = 503LM1

    Tax Code - Other Months = 522L

    Income before starting job for tax year = £0

    are you saying that in Feb your code was 503LM1
    also on the payslip is there a date and/or a month or period or week number ?

    and in march it was 522L

    and in april and the rest it was 522L

    That's correct! The February payslip is "Week/Month" 11

    There's two possible answers to this. If you had no previous employment in the tax year and these were your only earnings then you are due all the tax back as they were less than £5225.

    However that doesn't really gel with your tax deductions/code. If you had previous earnings, and supplied your new employer with a P45 which he didn't get around to actioning until March, then your March pay will have sorted any tax owed, either way, out. You neither owe anything nor are you due a refund.

    If neither of these scenarios apply then I can't make sense of it at all.
