How can I determine what mortgage i can get without a credit check?

Hi all,

I have a query with regards to obtaining a mortgage when I have missed payments in my history.

I am currently unsure what effect these missed payments will have and want to avoid applying for mortgages in case I am rejected, and so my question is:

What is the best way to find out the best mortgage available to me without registering multiple searches on my credit file?

These missed payments relate to one credit card 2.5 years ago. The account is now up to date as are all of my other accounts, including a mortgage (have never missed a payment on the mortgage).

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Many thanks,

HH

I think you are worrying too much, get yourself a broker and I am sure you will be ok. One of my friends had 4 missed payments on his credit card from 3 years ago and has just got a Halifax mortgage for 375k.

This is just the type of circumstance where a broker should be assisting you because a broker will know the likely response from a lender without running a credit score.

  • Thanks for the replies both, it does appear that would be the sensible thing to do!

Is there a general rule with regards to how far back lenders will consider missed payments? I have heard 2 or 3 years both being possible thresholds?
