yes i am claiming pension credit for both of us,but as soon as my wife reaches state pension age which will be march 2015 she can defer it,but they will see how many qualifying years in contributions that she as paid.
they said if she has not got may qualifying years she could get £67 or less
so if when i reach 65 in 2017 i may get the same,it seems they are punishing us,how can 2 people who are pensioners live on this?
hope you can understand this, its seems to much for people to take all this in
thank you and tc hope to hear off you soon0 -
i find all these rules are very hard to understand, surely in my wife refereed her pension,i can claim for her if she takes the rates,of the qualified years ,so in my reason i can still claim pension credit, for both of us is that correct?0

You would still claim PC but your Pension Credit income will still taken into account the Pension that she has entitlement to, this is called notional income.
I don't think that you wife would get a deferral as you are claiming Pension Credit and this is now an overlapping benefit
http://www.which.co.uk/money/retirement/guides/state-pension-explained/deferring-your-state-pension/
Deferring your state pension and benefits
If you’re deferring your state pension, you won’t build up any lump sum or extra pension for the days you're receiving any of the following benefits:- Income support
- Pension credit
- Employment Support allowance
- Jobseeker’s allowance
- Carer's allowance
- Incapacity benefit
- Severe disablement allowance
- Widow’s pension
- Widowed mother’s allowance
- Any type of state pension
Pension Credit is as a last resort type of benefit hence if your wife does not claim her state pension then it will still be taken into account. The same way that if she carries on with Carers Allowance she will not be entitled to the deferral.0 -
thank you for your reply,so if my wife receives her state pension, can she get carers allowance still, many thanks again,by the way its all complicated0

Carer's Allowance may not be paid if you're receiving a State Pension

If her state pension is over the carers allowance amount then she would go to the underlying entitlement as long as she still fulfills the criteria, which would mean the carers premium still stays on the Pension Credit claim0

Information for Carers is given in the very informative Age UK booklet to which I link in my first post.
See page 14.
And see the Age UK Fact Sheet http://www.ageuk.org.uk/documents/en-gb/factsheets/fs55_carer%27s_allowance_fcs.pdf?dtrk=true
page 10 and 11
And you should ring the Pensions Credit helpline for advice specific to your situation?0 -
