Renting after BR

Hi I was wondering if anyone here had experience of renting after BR but not before being discharged? We might need to find somewhere else to live and I'm definitely going BR, now my OH might have to too, and am worried we are going to be homeless yet again, only this time really have absolutely no where other than my car to go to.
Are you able to (for eg) get a friend/parent etc to take out the lease and then someone else live there, or is that sub letting? I guess it is really, just getting desperate now and scared.
Many thanks in advance if anyone can advise.

Aw Pixie, like you haven't got enough on your plate.
I am not supposed to live in my rented house if i'm BR, but my plan is to keep quiet and if the LL finds out then admit it and plead. My father also said he would go guarentor(sp) for me. Do you have anyone that can do that for you?
I have a 'friend' who has just moved into a place but paid six months rent up front as he had been BR and was the only way the LL would accept it. This worked fine, but is an awful lot of money to find in one go.
Good luck. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

Have you applied to your local council for council/housing association housing. Thats what I have done, they have to build a certain amount of social housing now on any new development - 30% where I live so you can get somewhere decent to live0

It amazes me how anyone gets one of those places.
I've been on a housing list for council and housing association for over 20 years now and NEVER been offered anything.
Though, thankfully, i've never been in a totally homeless situation. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

Thanks, disaster has been averted (I was panicing) but long term we might still have to think about things, so argh is the order of the day lol.
The council will do nothing for us as we are voluntarily homeless (ie, we weren't torn out of our housing illegally) and are British nationals, non-disabled, a non married couple without children and therefore at the very very bottom of a very very large pile. It doesn't help we apparently live in a very affulent area and therefore you're not allowed to be poor, homeless or struggle money wise in any way apparently, so no help from a lot of things because of where we thought we could have a home. ARGH, it never ends does it?
Getting 6 months rent in advance is another no no, but we do have a relative that would probably go guarantor, although to be honest don't know for suer and wouldn't like to ask (OH's family). It'll sort I'm sure, just having a 'worst case scenario' wobble at the moment.
Thanks for the help guys

kick up a fuss and bug the crap out of them till they get so fed up they give you a house just to shut you up.
i thought everyone knew that??
i got mine cos i knew the house next door to my sister was empty, i went to the house office and just said i know its empty can i have it, they said yeah, but its not in a good shape, have a look first, so i did, they said i could take it and have all the jobs done as and when while i was in there, still waiting after over 6.5 years.:rotfl:0 -
We moved into a rented property on 25th May this year. Both of un discharged bankrupt.
Initially the LL asked for 3 months up front but in the end couldn't be asked because of the new deposit scheme. So we moved in for one month + the usual one month in advance.
However there was no way we could go to a letting management company. Basically we have a rental agreement with a property company - he buys property to let out and we got lucky.
It is very difficult when you are BR as the management companies want a credit check - which they charge you for. We even told them in the end that the credit check was a waste of time we are BR and save the money on the search but they did not seem to have a form for this!
Good luck to all in this position. We hope to stay here for a very long time.
