I bought one of those boxed hams at Aldi's for Christmas. I was thinking how nice it would be to have 6.5 kilo of delicious ham available whenever anyone fancied a bit. Also was going to be New Years Eve buffet centre.
Problem is it is so tough it is inedible. It says to slice as thinly as possible but even that is almost impossible, and still tough as old boots:mad:
It cos t £34.50 and we just don't know what to do with it. Any ideas? Will need a power saw to cut it up as it's almost a metre long!

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!

Cured hams I find to be chewy
When I worked in a deli we were taught how to cut hams and it is a bit of an art form. You need to cut it so you can see the blade of the knife through the slice, it really needs to be that thin
There's a good video on YouTube that shows the technique on how to cut it0 -

As has been said, it needs to be sliced wafer thin so is almost transparent. You need an extremely sharp fillet knife for best results.0

There's a nice Mary Berry pasta dish that uses parma ham (says Serrano ham can be used instead). We had it on Christmas Eve and then made it again a couple of nights ago as it was so nice. It uses a lot of ham, so the second time we made it we halved the amount of ham and instead of having the raw ham in it we just had the fried crispy ham on top.0

Could you use it like cubed Pancetta in dishes like carbonara, fritatta, quiches, risottos etc?0

It came with a knife and we have tried. Just can not slice it thin enough. To be honest it's hard to slice any thickness. I wonder if I could borrow a friends electric knife? Or maybe a power saw:rotfl:When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0
