Single pregnant mum living the high life on benefits!

A bit of a moan :( any advice would be great thanks!

I'm 18 weeks pregnant with my third child, I have two other children aged 9 and 6.

I just feel like an utter failure at the minute. I'm on Jobseekers allowance which will change to Income support in March. Obviously I don't want to stay on benefits!

I have 4 years Accounting qualifications and 4 years experience up to October 2013 when I came out of work due to ill health. I feel ready to go back to work however jobs are paid so bad in my area that I'm better off on benefits as bas as it sounds.

My last job I worked as a Payroll Manager and Bookeeper for £7.00 per hour?! I showed my worth in that job for a long time and was promised career progression and a pay rise however it never happened and we all got a pay cut! Then tax credits admitted they had made a big mistake but demanded I pay back £8000 (which I had never had and proved this through bank statements) they wasn't interested and took my child and working tax credits off me completely. My car then got repossessed, all of my credit agreements went unpaid, I had bailiffs knocking on my door for council tax. My jobs before that were also close to minimum wage.

When I search for jobs the pay is so bad that it just isn't worth me applying. And those that offer a decent and suitable wage for the job description are all agency and when I apply they say that one has gone, they register me and when they put me forward for 'real' jobs its back to the rubbish wage.

I feel so tired of trying to work and when I do I struggle to live.

While I've been on benefits I've actually managed to buy myself and my children new clothes  a rarity when I was working. We've had holidays, days out, Christmas wasn't a struggle.

I don't get it??????? And people wonder why so many people milk the benefits system.

All I want is to just provide for my kids myself and go to work knowing that I'm earning that money for all the hard work I put in studying!!!

I don't get it either. Why would you get pregnant again in your situation? You're never going to get back to work if you keep having more kids.

I assumed that was the idea... :rotfl:

Boring troll who's had a go at being 'inflammatory', but this type of thread has been done to death :D

If a life on benefits is as generous as you are suggesting then why don't you keep your head down, enjoy it, and stop bringing attention to it.

And, if you feel guilty about living off the taxpayer, find some voluntary work you can do to help others in the community.

Do you not get support from the father of your children?
  • That's surprising, seeing as two weeks ago you created a thread saying you couldn't afford to keep the heating on.

  • Maybe look at a different career, or the next notch up, being sensible is hard I know x

Round my way, I notice a Receptionist will do payroll duties now and can expect to earn £6.65 as a good wage :o because regretfully workers have allowed it so sorry OP

I can remember the couple of weird interviews I went to not so long back during which I was told rather to have a baby! :o (no I didn't mishear) as discusting as those remarks were at time, it said a lot, I just accept it's part of being a woman but it is embraced by some employers even, it says a lot

Just hope and maybe with changes made to the finance industry, they'll have to relook at wages although living wage is only considered from £7.65 is it, there was something in the paper couple of weeks back, you've got to wonder how many payday borrowers will realise their job is proper supplemented at the worst time
    :(
but then a lot of have a go bread & butter companies of this country will jack in if they have to pay more so there really, really truly there is no happy medium :(
    Just tears all round

Sorry realise this is a bit dark and probably should be in discussion time ;)

Perhaps look for threads where DWP has been asking people to pay back - doesn't it scare? At some point guess this country has to pay :(:(

    OK, I'll bite.

You don't work yet live in a 3 bedroom semi detached house. My husband and I both work and live in a 2 bedroom terrace. I don't think people wonder why others "milk the benefit system" (as you put it) - it's obvious.

    Oooops! :D

You really do have to have a fairly good memory to be a troll. :p

    Poor effort OP. :D
  • I'm surprised she has heating issues - I would have thought the warmth generated by her pants being on fire would be more than enough.
