FTB - broker or not?

  • I'd strongly recommend FD. I have been over the moon with their service. Go for it!

A word to the wise. FD is currently offering extremely good fee-free "loyalty" lifetime tracker rates to existing customers. It might be worth taking a fee free lifetime tracker at a higher rate now and switching once you become eligible rather than paying a fee for the lower rate now.

They are good, aren't they? I rarely need to ring them for my day-to-day banking but I had a chat with them about mortgages last night, the lady I spoke to was excellent, and we ran through all questions I had.

Re the lifetime tracker you mention; I can see the fee-free one but I can't see the info in the T&C on when you are eligible to switch. I can always ring them back, but do you happen to know when that is? Have you done this yourself? I'll do some maths to compare the fee-paying and fee-free options today. Many thanks
  • I don't know when you become an existing customer, but I expect it is almost straight away. I switched my mortgage to a FD lifetime tracker in July last year and have switched product twice since then. Once when my LTV changed due to house price inflation and once to take advantage of these great new year offers.

Edit: I should add it was less than two months between the last two switches and FD didn't care.

I am also mindful that as a FTB if I apply to FD I will be on my own re surveys, valuations etc.

Ultimately you'll make the decisions. Other parties can advise and give opinion. However they won't tell you what to do.

The House buying board is a good place to air your concerns as they arise.

Absolutely. I just spotted the house-buying board - let's hope I never need to post there. Thanks.
