O/S Daily Saturday 3rd January 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, raining and dreich.
DH and myself up, he’s just left to go to his day of meetings, I’ve had a shower, I’m dressed ready for work and just finished my brekkie, I swapped next Saturday with today to help a colleague out. DS1 and DS2 still in their pits.
Lunch yesterday was a cheeky takeaway chicken and chips – we had decided that we would go to one of the pubs in the next town that does good value food after we’d been to the Opticians – we’re both fine, my prescription has changed so I chose new frames etc and DH needs new too, but he has an awkward prism so trying to get him varifocals is a bit of a challenge – so we went into the Opticians at 9.45am and got back to the car (we didn’t go anywhere else) at 11.40am – and we’re still awaiting a phone call as too which option they can can provide, but his are cheaper than mine, but I’ve gone for the best grade varifocals this time. So it was too late to go out for lunch, so picked up the takeaway on the way home. Really finding the change in food and eating difficult – I’m just going to have salad at lunchtime when I got home from work and then something similar tonight – just feel a bit yukky – my body just can’t tolerate too much rich food any more. I’ll be pleased to get back to lighter meals.
Today I’m going to go and do a food shop after work then I need to tackle some ironing, as the pile is massive – if I start the week without doing it – I’m going to have a lot to do during the week and I have to go into work on my day off on Thursday to do a morning training session so I’m losing half a day and we’re out for a very long day next Saturday so want to be on top of as much as I can, but then have the following week off as I need to use up the last bit of my annual leave.
I did ring our broadband supplier and got a new broadband deal sorted – so waiting for the new modem to arrive this week and Advisor was helpful although I didn’t get a brilliant deal – I don’t want to move supplier as their security seems fairly decent and we don’t seem to have loads of time where there’s no connection or connection problems, but we’ve never had WIfi before – so we’ll see. The only reason I’m changing is because the boys had tablets for xmas from my parents and they can’t use them at home other than games they’ve downloaded so have gone for unlimited broadband – it’s costing more but we’re getting more – I’m hoping it’ll reduce the amount they use on their phones – we’ll see.
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all! I was AWOL yesterday because my laptop suddenly died on me!! I have an antique desktop comp which I can fall back on in an emergency but it is SO SLOW I couldn't be bothered waiting for it to limp along!
We'd had the 3 DGDs to feed and then sleep Thursday night as DD working and for a change they all decided to sleep in! Typical when we had planned a day out. Eventually we were all ready but first I had to take in my laptop in to be sorted. He did it there and then and only wanted a couple of quid bless him! Then we went on to the museum visit we had planned - to find it still closed! Aaargh my morning was going to pot by the minute. So we ended up just eating out and back home again!
I have been up since silly o'clock this morning and been tackling all sorts of jobs (quietly as DH still in bed!). Grated all the cheese still in the fridge and that's now in a tub in the freezer to be used in quiches, on pizzas, in omelettes, sandwiches etc. Then un-bluetacked all the Xmas cards off doors etc, took batteries out of all the Xmas ornaments, stripped the tree of ornaments, lights etc. Once DH up and about they can all be boxed up and put in the loft till next Xmas, followed by a good clean up everywhere. It'll be nice to get back to normal even though it does look bare everywhere!

Good morning everyone
The wind and rain woke me up early so I'm very glad hubby has offered to go to town this morning. We need gas/electric and a couple of mum/ nanna birthday cards. I'm so tired that I'm typing this with my eyes almost closed so please forgive any typos!
I had some lovely news yesterday, my best friend's daughter is expecting her first baby in July. It is a miracle baby as she had cervical cancer when she was only 21 and had a lot of her cervix cut away. She never thought she would be able to have children so this is such a blessing. I'm so pleased for them and will be clicking away on my knitting needles for her.
I'm trying to mentally prepare for Monday when everyone here goes back to work / school. It has been tricky here over the holiday with arguments and sulking at times but on the whole it has been lovely. I will really miss the company but I will have to find something to do with my time.
Hubby went to our local Dog's Trust yesterday but came back disappointed that there wasn't any suitable for our circumstances. He's left our details so hopefully we will get a call in the near future.
Well that's all my waffle for today. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning :hello:

Yesterday I went to town, did three loads of washing, took most of the decs down, dusted and polished. I'm exhausted
I couldn't bring myself to buy the S&G because it wasn't on 3 for 2 – even though I had 2 x £3 off a £12 spend vouchers and lots of Boots points so it would've been free anyway. But if I wait til it's on offer, it'll be even freer :rotfl: I stocked up on their own brand stuff instead (but have left enough points for the S&G!) so I won't have to buy toiletries for a while.
I haven't sorted the laptop yet, I didn't have time so I'll do that this afternoon. This morning I'll be packing the rest of the decs away and hoovering.

Good morning everyone.
What's an S & G please tru?
Today OH and I are into town - banking mainly, then a drive to Lidl - our nearest is being refurbished and hasn't been open for about five months, I miss it terribly. So today as a treat we are off to the next nearest.
Then I have to work - I work from home and it has to fit around my 'out to work' job, so tends to be left to weekends. Unfortunately I'm not terribly organised and on top of the job, so I'm always behind - this weekend will be a catch up as I haven't done enough over Christmas to be honest.
So, shopping then work.
Nothing exciting here then!0 -
Soap & Glory The most amazing shower gels and moisturisers ever
It's a bit expensive but a little goes a long way. I use my birthday and Christmas present budget to buy it, and only when it's on offer

Morning all
Our visitors stayed until past midnight last night so I had a lie in this morning & took advantage of hubby, lol.
There are enough leftovers to make my lunches for next week as one couple didn't turn up, so I'll get that all packed up ready.
We have one of the DGD's visiting later, staying overnight & then we'll swap her for another DGD tomorrow, she will only stay for part of the day though as we have work on Monday.
DD1 is slightly less exhausted & DD2 is on the mend & in less pain now which is good, also hubby's feet are healing nicely as he's been resting and wearing slippers & lighter dressings this week.
I've nearly finished my rainbow blanket, I'm on the final border, I'll try to remember to post a pic on my blog later.
Time I made some porridge.
Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning everyone, very grey here today, we had some heavy rain until about 8.30 and now it's stopped but it's real 'January' weather out there. Nice to be back on ordinary food again and not be living off cold cuts and leftovers, we had a bacon and mushroom kedgeree for supper last night with a watercress salad and it was beautiful, today I'm using up some sausagemeat and making sausage and apple burgers in buns (all from the freezer) with homemade oven wedges and salad which will be nice too. I've a little ironing to do and have just finished the house work so not too much to do and a nice easy day ahead.
Have yourselves a nice day everyone and enjoy being back to normal? Lyn xxx.0 -
Hi everyone,
I'm glad to hear DH's feet are finally on the mend Hester, and that DD's are also doing well.
My DD was stuck on Mull for most of yesterday because of the weather but she said it wasn't a bad crossing when they finally got away.
We were hoping to go out with DS and gF today but I don't think it's happening now. DH has gone off to the gym and I think we'll have something light for dinner. I didn't do too much damage over the hols - I can't really eat cream after my gall bladder op so I avoided puddings as much as possible.
I want to put the decs away today if we're not going out and get the house sorted ready for next week. Maybe if it stays dry we'll go for a walk.
Have a good day.0 -
Good morning everyone
Slept in a bit this morning, which is a nuisance as we're going out to an Open House lunchtime party today and I wanted to pop in to a local bed sale on the way. We've been gifted a bed frame for our spare room so need to find a new mattress for it.
Pleased to see that the cat is back to her normal self today. Yesterday she'd been sick whilst we were out and was then a bit quiet and sleepy all day but seems to have recovered now. I did catch her lapping the water in the Christmas tree holder earlier - little so and so!
Not sure what we'll be eating today but planning on keeping my purse firmly closed apart from buying a newspaper.
Enjoy your Saturday!0
