Nytol

My OH is taking the kids away camping next week and I am having a nice peaceful break from the little darlings. Only trouble is, when they're all away I can't sleep
Don't know why, probably because I'm not used to being in the house alone at night. I thought I'd give Nytol a try, but I'm wondering if it is OK to take after you've had a drink or two (wine in my case) -anyone know ?
TIA

I've just read the leaflet in my Nytol packet and it says 'Avoid alcoholic drink whilst using Nytol'. That's for the tablets in the blue box, you may find that herbal ones don't have the restriction, but I don't have the leaflet for those any more.0

Want me to come round and keep you company?0

Thanks Soozy, I gather the non herbal tablets are the best, so that's a bit of a downer -mind you I was intending to take the pills after drinking alcohol not during, but I don't think that's what it means.0 -
Sorry to say this but I think 'do not take with alcohol' also means 'don't take when you've got alcohol in your system'.0

Can't you just have a few more glasses of Wine than you normally would?
I have over years had several sleeping tablets - Temazepam/Zopiclone... and then I bought a packet of Blue Nytol pills...
I felt really woozy and crappy on them and didn't get to sleep with them. They have an anti-histamine in I think.
I wouldn never take them again. I got worse side effects of them than I did with the ones I have received from the Drs.0 -
The herbal ones do work for me up to a point, so you could give them a go - they're not as good as the non-herbal (blue packet) ones though. All that said, I'm sure there must have been occasions in the past where I've taken them after drinking alcohol and not noticed any difference. I've never noticed any side effects from the blue nytols though they only work for a few days at at time before I become immune to them.0

., or I could just get up and watch the telly or decorate the living room, then sleep in the day. Anyway, thanks for your help everyone

I have to agree with "The waltons" about the fact that they can make you feel extremely odd if you don't sleep on them. I found the way they made me feel very unpleasant and a bit frightening.
If your really worried about spending the night at home without your family, then try speaking to your GP who might be able to give you something to use as a one off to relax you, that might help you sleep also.
Or you could try things to help you whilst they are away, such as sleeping with the tv or radio on quietly. Maybe sleep downstairs on the sofa if your concerned about being upstairs alone. Ring a friend or someone during the evening so you don't feel alone the whole time. Maybe have a light on low during the night. Keep lights on around the house all night so you don't have to walk into dark rooms etc. Just things like that.0 -
Thanks Trace, I think I'll give the Nytol a miss after everyone's advice. I'm not really worried about being alone in the house at all -I just don't seem to be able to sleep
it's weird. I think I'll just get up if I can't drop off and do something useful -maybe I'll become nocturnal for the week :rotfl:

I would just drink more wine than usuall as suggested, that will do the trick. Then look through the hangover threads on this forum. Apparantly bannanas help, go to bed with a bannanana.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0
