2015 will be my Debt Free Year!

Hi All and Happy New Year!

As its the first of January I have decided to start a new diary for the new year. I'm hoping this will be my last and I will be debt free this year, I just have to make it happen!!

The debt has been hanging around now for long enough so it really does have to go. We want to buy a bigger house this year so would love to be debt free when we apply for the mortgage. Not sure if that will happen, but will be aiming to pay off one of two credit cards before we go and look at money / mortgages etc.

The debt is as follows:

Tesco Credit Card: £6,987.80
MBNA Credit Card: £8595.10
Total: £15,572.90

I have a Next Account too but I haven't looked at that recently to see what its sitting at, although I know I need to.

My aim will be to have the Tesco card paid off by June hopefully, and then we can re-assess and see where we are.

We can well afford to be rid of this, and I'm embarrassed that we haven't paid off more throughout the course of 2014. I will be working really hard to make sure we clear our feet this year, so that we can get on with the rest of our lives!

Feel free to stop by and say hi, and I look forward to catching up with some of my MSE friends from my last diary!

An optimistic Mrs S :)

  • Hi Diaryland!

Well I officially have the back to work tomorrow blues! :( Its been such a quick 2 weeks and I've not done nearly as much as I had planned but I guess its all about the family time and just chilling.

Moneywise, I have gone and paid £200 off the Tesco Credit Card, so totals will be as follows:

    Tesco Credit Card: £6,787.80
    MBNA Credit Card: £8595.10
    Total: £15,372.90

I can feel the excitement building as I know I will get the debt under £15k by the end of January but the bigger challenge will be to get the tesco card under £6k! I have a think about it droping down a number, literally cannot wait til we are under £10k, I will feel like we're really on the home straight!!

Anyway, I'm rambling - as I do, so will stop! I have three bags of kids clothes that I need to ebay, so will have to get a move on with that. I do find it time consuming but it all builds up so I need to try and do that this week. If only I didn't have to work, it takes up too much of my time! :P

Hope you all have a good week, will pop back later in the week,

I feel like that and I'm not even at work at the moment!! Been nice having hubby around. It's such a horrible time of the year in many ways. Being under £10k would be amazing!! Stay focussed on that.

  • Thanks Mrs R and welcome! I'll have to have a look for your diary so I can keep track of your progress too!

Ah poor you cruchy! I know what you mean about the time of year, its just getting back into the routine its a bummer!

Well I don't have any money updates at the moment, but was thinking that I may get my credit file just to make sure there's nothing nasty on there I don't know about. If we're hoping to get a mortgage in June / July then I would hopefully have time to sort anything that needs sorting!

Does anyone know how long it takes to update? I have paid off a couple of storecards over Christmas but obviously not sure if they will have registered with experian or equifax yet.

I know these things are just a guide, but I would like to have a rough idea if my score has improved.

  • Arrrrgghhh!! I have been TERRIBLE at MSE / Debt Busting this month, and this is supposed to be my debt free year!! Will start with the payments that have been made, £200 off the Tesco Card and the DD of £93.82 off the MBNA card. Not the best, and £500 off my previous target or trying to pay £888 per month off the debts, but it has given me the reality check to get a move on!

We are going on holiday in March so the spending money for that would have been going to the credit cards, I will just have to ebay extra hard and try and figure out some other ways to pay it all off.

Until then, the updates are below:

    Tesco Credit Card: £6,681.76
    MBNA Credit Card: £8,509.15
    Total: £15,190.91

I will absolutely make sure that I get this below £15k this month, I just have to. I really want to have the Tesco card paid off by June so really need to get our bottoms in gear!

Will definately post more regularly this week and the coming months to try and keep me on track.

    Thanks for reading,
