Hi
Just following on from others
Unfortunately receiving other peoples letters of this type is not uncommon
Other posters have more or less got it covered however it can be a worrying experience for some especially the most vulnerable. A visit to your local CAB or other advice agency can help as they may be able to contact the creditors / collection agencies / senders and put a stop to it.
Link from Adviceguide that might help in some way to anyone looking in who has experienced or is experiencing any mail of this kind

I received a bill through from my old water company at my previous address stating they had not received payment from my tenants. I phoned them up, told them I don't own the property they are referring to and the tenants are not mine. They soon left me alone.Original Total: £34200.78 / Current Total: £24017.00 (July 2017) -29.88%!

The sharper debt collectors would treat someone saying "they dont live here anymore" as a bluff from someone trying to run the debt clock forward and turn the heat up, a hit is a hit.
Why would anyone open other peoples letters and start trying to sort someone else's affairs out.
Any debt collector worth an ounce would smell *****I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Thank you for all your replies, and information links, I appreciate you taking the time to help.0

Quite where you've plucked that from is beyond me. Most certainly was not the case in my situation. They were thankful to me for informing them.0 -
We got letters for the people who used to live here. looking up the return address on the franking mark or the back of the envelope, most of them were debt collection agencies and catalogue companies. I simple crossed out the address and wrote 'RTS not at this address' on them and put them in the post box. Every couple of years we get a new wave of letters - assuming where the debt has been sold on to a new company, and I do the same thing. In 5 years I've never had anyone come to my door.
