I'm with the OP on this one!!! It must be great to be super-organised with money, never have any financial problems or worries, and be permanently debt-free. But sadly most of us live in the real world for at least some of the time. Fair enough, everyone should try and pay bills ahead of their due date, and I 99.99% always do by DD/SO, but things happen and occasionally those of us who are human slip up, and it's a real bummer if you realise you've almost slipped up, like the OP did, and try to rectify it only to be told that because of the archaic banking system, it's your tough luck, "but here, have a charge, and would you like to do a balance transfer with that sir?!". I think it is poor service that he wasn't advised to make the payment by debit card over the phone, I bet loads of people don't even realise you can do that.
When I just want to send money from one bank account to another it takes (on a good week) 3 days for money to go from my Halifax account to my HSBC account. So instead I draw cash out the hole-in-the-wall, walk along the road and pay it in to the branch. You can argue about the cost of maintaining the BACS system and so on, but it costs plenty enough to pay a little girl to sit behind a counter stamping paying-in slips all day. Good news about the forthcoming changes - about time!
Rant over before I start on the Paypal gap!:rolleyes:0
