Harvey's furniture issues

Hi all,
Despite my suggestions to my mother to not bother with the DFS/Harvey's type furniture place, she bought a sofa in October from Harvey's, with guaranteed delivery for Xmas.
Needless to say, it hasn't turned up, with no confirmation it wasn't even made until the Saturday before Xmas.
As she's not too well, I took this up for her. A side note to this is that she's got rid of her old furniture, as it was advised it'd be delivered that Saturday (confirmed with the store)
Eventually, i got through to Harveys via email to the CEO office (there was no reply by other means, and the people at the store are complete sales orientated sharks)
All they could tell me at the complaints dept is that the factory hadn't yet received the fabric as yet, and were closed over Xmas.
After a lot of complaining, I've managed to get a loan two seater for her. They have no idea when it'll be delivered, so I've said that if there is nothing by Tuesday, I'd want to cancel.
This was paid via a £400 deposit, and the rest on HP. Can she just simply cancel? Should the deposit be refunded?
Behind all this is the fact that I've never had a good experience with these stores, and I think such late delivery of items to the manufacturing place smells of general business problems.. It makes you wonder about the state of Harvey's.
