This thread has probably already lost some valuable contributors over the search wins debate and it's a shame that despite all the hassle of last week it can't just be left and some people feel they must have the last word. The number of posts has declined, hopefully just because of the bank holidays and not because people don't want to post here.
If you search and win well done, if not keep trying or just don't bother, either way it is your personal choice as is whether you think it is random or not.0 -
You know I'm pretty sure I saw a user post the algorithm they thought works on the searches somewhere earlier in this thread, at least 2x. I'm not sure if that's really how it works but it made a sort of sense.
It was something akin to entering a prize draw. The more you search before the "draw time" the higher number of entries you get and hence higher chance for a search win.
But either way, like Mark said above, why bother arguing about this?
The only reason the whole search fiasco came about was because a user asked for people to stop posting search wins or at least post it on a separate thread to stop their instant email notifications giving them what they thought were non useful posts. This is a perfectly legitimate request and to be honest I would have asked the same thing except it doesn't really bother me as much to have to click on my instant notification emails just to see a search win on this thread. I just close and ignore.
When I started SB last year and started reading this thread myself from start to finish (or last year's thread, to be more precise), I was myself confused at the search win posts and wondering why I wasn't winning. The same thing happened a couple of pages back with newbies.
What I'm trying to say is, the original poster had a point, and hell, we won't be deciding to put search win posts onto a separate thread anyway looking at the last "discussion", so I'm going to hop on out again now
But please, stop arguing about search wins. Unless you wrote the algorithm yourself you probably know as much as the next person.0 -
Just got a thing on my screen saying ArcticAurora as a code.
But it says invalid when I try and claim it?0 -
It came up in a little box on the bottom right of my screen about 15mins ago? But like I say it doesn't seem to work. I wondered if anyone else knew anything about this?0
