Charged £67.88 by Search Loans Ltd never heard of them!

Options
Has anyone heard of 'SEARCH LOANS' or 'searchloans.co.uk'?

I noticed my bank account was about £70 short and when I checked a payment of £67.88 had been taken by someone called SEARCH LOANS (apparently a broker).

I have never heard of these people and have certainly not applied for a loan through them and definitely not given my bank details.

I have checked their website and it is well presented but they do not give an Email address to complain only a premium rate phone number which I am reluctant to call.

They provide an address but does anyone have any experience of them and/or have a valid Email Address?

  • Have you applied for loans/via a loan broker to anyone recently?

They would have got your details from somewhere.

Give your bank a call and see what they suggest.

The problem you have is that this company have not just guessed your bank card details. You have supplied these details to a company which is linked to Search Loans. And somewhere along the way, you have ticked that you accept the Terms & Conditions which will have allowed them to charge you.

Contact your bank in the first instance and ask them to do a charge back, telling them that you have not authorised the transaction. Also instruct your bank not to authorise any further transactions.

If the bank refuse to take action, you will have to write recorded delivery to Search Loans demanding a full refund. Threaten them with a complaint to the FCA if they do not give the full refund.

And in future, be careful who you give your bank card details to.

The above doesn't seem too well presented to me.
As above though, you have given your details out to someone recently.
  • Or it could be that someone has skimmed your debit card details and used that. You need contact your bank and tell them it is an unauthorised transaction and block any further payments to them. Might be worth asking to change your debit card too.

    A possibility.

But the most obvious explanation will be what happened.
  • I have been to see my bank today and they say that because it seems to involve a loan company they cannot stop the transaction (as it won't actually clear until Wednesday) whether I have dealt with them or not. Neither can they prevent any further attempts to take money from me. So where ever they got my details from it appears someone I don't know and have had no dealings with has open access to my bank and the bank will not do anything to block them. This is simply theft and fraud.

Your bank is lying to you! Go back to them and demand (not ask) that they refund the payment and stop any further payments. Tell them that if they do not do so, you will make a formal complaint to the FCA. You have evidently been talking to a minion who can't be bothered to check what the bank needs to do.

As a rule the bank will not refund the money until the transaction has been settled and actually charged to the account.

Once this has happened it might be worth you contacting the bank again and disputing the transaction.

Are they saying the payment is pending? They can't block it yet if that's the case.

At the very least they should get able to reimburse subsequent payments after they've been claimed.

Ask a senior staff member to comply with the Payment Services Regulations. If they won't, you can take your complaint to the FOS.

    Show them this leaflet.

Have you, or have you not, approached any loan company about credit facilities in the last few months?
