Leftover Mango Chutney

Hi & Happy Boxing Day!

I opened a jar of mango chutney a couple of days ago and threw away the jar but I have rather a lot left over. Other than have it with a curry and possibly on a cheese board, what else could I do with it?

Thanks

I freeze it in dollops on a baking sheet and then tip into a bag as I don't use it very often these days and it is such a waste otherwise.
Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

I use it in a slow cooked sausage in onion gravy receipe.

Fry some sausages until they start to brown. Put into a slowcooker on high. Fry a chopped onion for a couple of minutes then stir in 2 tablespoons of plan flour and stir whilst cooking for a couple of minutes. Then slowly stir in 8-10 fl ounces of water and bring to the boil. Add a chicken/vegetable stock cube or stock pot, then stir in 2 tablespoons of mango chutney and 2 tablespoons of lea & Perrin sauce. Pour the gravy over the sausages in the slow cooker, turn down to low and cook for 4-5 hours. Yummy.

  • A few dollops with some curry powder, mayo/yogurt and anything else you have handy will turn it into into a nice coronation turkey dressing.

Bizarrely I find mango chutney goes amazingly well with ham in sandwiches. Better than most familiar condiments IMO.

You can make really nice little pasties with puff pastry, filled with a little bit of brie and a small spoonful of mango chutney - they're great for parties and nibbles.
  • mango chutney + tomato ketchup + curry powder = an odd curry sauce I have only found in scotland but is delicious called chasni.

Smoked cheese and mango sandwiches are absolutely incredible, we had those for lunch today. You'd get through the jar very quickly!
