I`m asking for help for my friend please. She only has an income of £180 a week, she works full time as a cleaner. She has to pay full council tax and rent, she has no help with anything. Her 19 yr old daughter lives with her, but she is on job seekers allowance , she gives my friend £2o a fortnight, when she remembers. she is getting desperate now, as she is left with about £30 a wekk to feed herself.
Thanks
Thanks

I think she should ask her daughter for more money, £10 a week board is not enough, isn't JSA about £50? Why should daughter who doesn't work have £40 spending money a week and mum who works hard have nothing, and struggles as well? I always think that if working parents took most of their offsprings JSA for upkeep then the child would get a job a lot quicker, if they only had £10 a week for spends they might find a job fast! IMHO that is!
(I might be wrong about JSA amount, but I think parent should take the biggest portion of it, not child is my point.)0 -
If she's really only on £180 per week, she should be on benefits aswell - check her details on http://www.entitledto.co.ukpoppy100

Hi I agree with Denbo in that the daughter should be contributing more to the household! You could also point your friend towards the OS board for ideas about cutting her grocery bills but still eating well!Do what you love :happyhear0

I have already told my children that once they are old enough to contibute to the house income they have to contribute thier fair share. They use just as much if not more in utilities, so would have to pay thier equel share. If on jsa they wouldnot be responsible towards the rent though. food included they should be paying into the family budgets around £35 average (this is between 3 of us) per week.2026 Goals

Hi
i am not sure that entitledto.com deals with your friends situation very well. It assumes that you are either single or a couple with or without children. it does not have the facility for dealing with a single person with an adult child at home. Would suggest she asks to talk to the benfits advisor at CAB.
The other factor is that I suspect that the benefits system assumes that DD is paying part of the rent and half the council tax, for which DD should be claiming housing and council tax benefit. Mum can't claim on her behalf.
And definately, DD needs to pay all of her JSA plus her CTB abd HB to mum apart from a vey small allowance for personal needs. Otherwise DD needs to move out and rent. Then mum can get a lodget in to help her pay the rent.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
