O/S Daily Friday 26th December 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, but looks cold and frosty,

DH and myself up and enjoying first peaceful cuppas. DS1 and DS2 still in their pits.

We had a lovely Christmas Day – I managed to cook the dinner well, and was one of my best efforts at a Christmas Dinner, everything just fell into place, and bearing in mind that this year I haven’t been as well organised, I’m really chuffed that I didn’t get into a panic and overwhelmed and just got on with it, but did majority of the prep Christmas Eve so there wasn’t loads left to do yesterday. I sat with a pad and pen and a glass of wine Christmas Eve and made a list/action plan – that’s always helps me focus.

Both boys seem very pleased with their gifts, and again have had lots of stuff – totally spoilt! Hubby and I had money, smellies, wine, chocs, biscuits, nice food hamper etc. I had a new handbag, perfume and a pair of jeans, hubby had the usual pants, socks and aftershave.
Today we are going to the big electrical shop to see if I can purchase a new TD – decided that I’m not going to be able to manage without one. Also going to see if I can persuade hubby to take me to MrT, even if he sits in the car in the car park as I want to see if I can purchase a new dressing gown – saw them in just the right colour before xmas – but decided I wouldn’t buy one then.

Today, we are also going to spend the day at mum and dad’s – they came here yesterday for the day, and seemed very happy with their xmas lunch – so they wanted us to go to theirs today and my bro and sis in law are coming to mum and dads for a couple of days today too, so will be great to catch up with them.

After lunch, mum, dad, DS2 and myself went out for a walk – it was lovely, very cold but nice to get out in the fresh air for a while, certainly will be something I do each Christmas Day from now on even if I go on my own – we weren’t out very long but was it was good to get out for a bit.

Have a great Boxing Day everyone x

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I had a good night's sleep last night so I feel positively human today. Everyone else is still in bed but I'm cooking sausages so am expecting the smell to wake them up. Yesterday was very nice and chilled, no shouting or stressing from me, hubby or the kids, it was just lovely to spend time together.

I've woken up feeling the need to get back on track with my healthy eating plan. There are still loads of chocolates lying around but I am quite sick of them so will find it easier to avoid them now. We are having chicken sausages and scrambled eggs (mother and child reunion!) for breakfast and the traditional turkey, chips and pickles for lunch. I look forward to that almost as much as Christmas dinner.

The washing machine is doing it's thing and the dishwasher is waiting to be unloaded so I'm going to get on. Hope you all have a lovely Boxing Day whatever you are up to, take care xxx

    Morning everyone.

Hope we all survived the day. We had a very quiet and restful time, some lovely presents and good conversations. My mum was in recalling old times mode which was interesting.

Christmas dinner was very MSE. A lovely bottle of red wine given as a present, a piece of free venison from the estate where I live and red cabbage from the freezer. Only had to but potatoes and my beloved sprouts. And pudding. There's loads of venison left over so I'll be taking that up home today.

I'm not really a fan of Christmas and find it difficult to get into the spirit if it. Not a grinch exactly. At least it's over for another year and now I'm looking forward to Hogmanay. Think it'll be fairly quiet too as the farmer and family nearest to me have to get up early for the animals.

Foggy here just now so crept back under the duvet as the house is quiet.

    Happy Boxing Day everyone.

    Morning :santa2:

I had a great time with Little Mate on Christmas Eve and he kept his new hat on for almost an hour before pulling it off, lol. We jingled some bells, shared a few quavers and a satsuma, and sat on the floor in the kitchen chatting to and stroking a chicken. Well I chatted, the chicken clucked a bit and Little Mate said 'aaaahh baaaabaaaa' a lot :D Oh and the other people here were good company too :D

The mini-mes went out in the evening, miss got in late but at least she slept here – master wandered in at 8.45am yesterday with a slight (ahem) hangover. He slept for most of the day, lol.

Mum and dad popped round early for an hour so we didn't open presents til late morning. I have a couple of lanterns, lots of smellies, some choc and a little wooden cupboard for egg storage – it has a mesh door and looks very rustic :D Also a camera, but that doesn't count because I've been after one for ages and I bought it for myself when it was reduced, lol. I told mr tru to wrap it and put it under the tree :D

I've had a quick look at yesterday's thread but didn't read properly. Your post jumped out at me though Hester, I had the same thing with a copycat gift-giver and it's not the first time it's happened. They may be grown up now but they're still my kids, why this person tries to outdo me is beyond me Roll_Eyes_Smiley_by_Mirz123_zpsfacaf1cf.gif

It's cold and frosty here today, I'll have to keep popping out to check the chickens' water hasn't frozen over. We're staying in today, miss tru has to work 12pm - 5pm and I'm not sure what master tru is doing yet. We don't bother with meals on Boxing Day, we have a small buffet (leftover from deliberately cooking too much for the Christmas Eve buffet!) and we'll just pick all day long, lol. I'm hoping the kids stay in later to watch a film with us but they'll probably have something much more interesting planned :D

    Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. We did, although DH spent far too much on me. He gave me tickets to see Bette Midler in July, I love her so I'm really excited. Unfortunately, he'd left his printed receipt on the dining table and I saw it on Christmas Eve so it wasn't a surprise. I didn't let on though.

The only worry about the whole day is that DS is a bit depressed at the moment so he didn't eat with his normal enjoyment. He's fighting it though so hopefully he won't get as bad as he was three years ago. I just wish I could make it all better for him.
  • I am hoping today is going to be a better day. We both slept last night not waking until well after 9am.

I am not getting dressed. No one due so the clothes can stay in the wardrobe. OH has asked for fish and wedges tonight, so I will take the meat off the turkey breast, slice and freeze most of it. I will do a cold buffet tomorrow night.

We have had an air frost overnight, so it's a very clear cold morning. Just right for a walk, but this lady is staying put.

I will not be joining the predicted millions who will be spending money they have not got on things they could do without in the sales.

    Hi all,

Just having a post Christmas day tidy up before we go and get MIL.

Enough leftovers to last till Easter, so food won,t be an issue :)

Hester and Judi - sorry things didn,t run to plan - family can be a PITA!

We had a mini-drama last night, happily watching Call the Midwife, when youngest (16) came into the lounge and snuggled up next to me, after a couple of minutes I realised he was sobbing, I asked what was wrong, and it turns out my selfish Ex had not even bothered to text them...... No card, no call no nothing..... The man is SO SELFISH. My DD (18) phoned him, and started having a right pop at him, I intervened, only to be told that I was in the wrong as she had sworn at him, and i,d allowed her to.... I kept very calm, said a few home truths and put the phone down. DS had calmed down by then, but is adement, that he,s having nothing to do with him, DD has said this for years. I told them both the 'leave the door open' as once things calm down, he may phone and apologise - fingers crossed hey..... Then we played quiz games and we ended up having a lovely family evening.

Have a great Boxing day all x

Off to make coffee and toast some pannetone x

  • Good Morning everyone, we had a lovely but quiet Christmas Day, odd not to have DD2 here but we didn't feel the day was too different to be noticed and enjoyed being slightly less lively and calmer (DD2 is a live wire!). Lunch was very nice and we have much cold brisket to slice thinly and have in sandwiches . Lunch today is bubble and squeak with cold beef, ham and sausages along with lots of homemade pickles and we too almost look forward to this meal more than the christmas one.

We decided to make all presents practical this year and limit the number and amount we spent. They all clubbed together to get me the steam mop I wanted and DD1 had a new standard lamp for her lounge and DD2 had a steam mop too. He Who Knows was treated to a new up toi date digital camera which has made him very happy indeed! Tomorrow DD and I will be hitting the sales as I owe her a work jumper which we didn't find before christmas and we always buy cards and advent calendars for next year now along with wrapping paper etc. seems silly to wait to next christmas and have to pay full price.

Have yourselves a lovely Boxing Day, Lyn xxx.

    Morning all,

We had a lovely day yesterday dinner went like clockwork, I put all the dishes on the table and everyone helped themselves it worked so well I shall be doing that every year from now on.

Today we are off to my sisters we shove some jackets in the Aga then get the dogs out for a long walk come home to cooked jackets and cold meats, there is also a load of cauli cheese and red cabbage left over so a nice easy meal today.

Just going to grab some toast then have a bit of a clean round then jump in the shower and be off !

    Have good days all xx
  • Hi all
I started the daily at silly o'clock this morning but it seems to have disappeared so I'll post again on here.
Tru, it's all done in spite, you'd think after 15 years the ex would have got over it, but obviously not.
Hubby's still in a lousy mood & I'm bearing the brunt. Even down to the gift I bought him, it needs to be plugged into the mains, so of course, the only place he wants to keep it is on the only shelf that isn'tt near a socket!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
