Is it true Wescott are owned by Equifax

I read that Wescott are owned by Equifax while looking something else today.

Does anybody know if its true. This would be a conflict of interest surely.

It was on Consumer Action group forum.

Take a look at page 4 of this http://www.credit-manager.co.uk/other/CCR%20May07%20UKDebtCrisis.pdf
Alpha

I apologise if this has already been covered but I cannot find it.

  • No, they are two completely different companies. Wescot do use Equifax to help locate people though.

    Hope this helps

Have a look at the link I just put in above page 4, I do not know if I am allowed to copy it but this is an interesting paragraph, somebody correct me if I am wrong. It seems to mean they are all in league with each other.

    "The Collectors
    Besides purchasing portfolios, Cabot
Financial places accounts with 23 agencies.
“Cabot places as much debt with
    agencies as banks do,”Maynard says.
A director of the Credit Services
Association and chairman of its Debt
    Buyers & Sellers Group,Maynard names
the largest UK collection agencies as
    Intrum Justitia, Westcot Credit (owned
by credit bureau Equifax), Legal and
    Trade (owned by Outsourcing Solutions
    Inc.) and NCO Europe."
  • Hi again!

I found this link regarding Wescot Credit Services which has no mention of Equifax:

Living in Hull you tend to know one or two people working there as they employ over 400 Hullites! I've been led to believe that the above link is actually correct.

    Hi
Did you have a look at the other link? its all a bit complicated and Alchemy do come into it somewhere. I only came across this today and thought it very odd.
I did not know the credit reference agency could own the debt collection agency, so I had not had the time to check it out more. The other link looks very interesting though i think that one is genuine.
Thought people on here would know about the possible connection.
    Alpha.
