may take a year or so get the crocus going, but perhaps for long term MSE option?
Nice idea, but you only get 3 stamens per flower - you'll need a fair number of plants. Admittedly the bulbs aren't expensive, about a tenner for 50.
An alternative might be to grow candela which is apprently a saffron substitute - I have grown it but not tried using it in cooking. Its a very pretty easy to grow flower though.
