The BIG shop

Options
Is anyone else like me and do the BIG shop.

I don't know why we call it the BIG shop because it is just a few added on things that we don't normally buy week to week.

You would think the shop's where closed for a whole week the way some people do their Christmas grocery shop. This morning I went to Aldi for my shopping, I saved my vouchers £15 off £75 spend from the newspaper the other week so that it didn't really cost much more than I would pay week to week. Some of the people had their shopping trollies overflowing with goodies, not a lot of what they had was actual food I would call dinner food. Lots of cakes, crisps, and nibbles etc.

I find it really weird that they spend so much money on just 1 day. I wonder if they are all skint in the New Year or have massive credit card bills to go along with the massive trolly loads full of rubbish.

What do you think?

Most will shop so as to be able to spend Christmas and New Year shopping free. Some will want to get particular items before they are sold out, some will want to buy stocking fillers in time for the big day.

There are many reasons why people would stock up prior to Christmas day. We could not do a big shop today as OH is too full of a cold.

I bough some snacks and crisps for us the weekend before last, most consumed now. I didn't see the point of waiting to xmas day to open them when we would never eat all that in one day anyway, esp on top of a big meal.

I don't see the need to shop like the shops will never reopen, however some people do have parties or visitors over the festive period so need items to those.

  • People don't necessarily intend for themselves and their family/guests, to consume a whole overflowing trolleyful of produce on Christmas Day alone.

I don't intend to go food shopping for at least the next 2 weeks. Have an order coming from Tesco tomorrow and that is it till at least the 4th of january, hopefully longer. I hate the bustle at this time of year, can't be doing with lengthy queues and pre-christmas/post christmas chaos. Buying enough in to tide us over that long, and including all sorts of good things to eat, meats, cheeses, nibbles etc. two deliveries, 1 last week and one tomorrow and that's us kept going for the next 2, hopefully 3 weeks.

    Xmas Saver!
I'm the same as op above I have already brought most of my nibbles chocolates cheeses etc and have a Tesco slot booked for Wednesday with the rest, I hate with a capital H going out shopping just before Christmas. probably will have to go out or book a slot before new year though as not got for all dinners unless I can/want to remember to adjust my Wednesday order
have now given up smoking since feb 13th 2014 loving the money I'm saving
  • Our tesco shop booked for Tuesday doesnt look much different to a normal one tbh. I hate going shopping while kids are off so other than bread milk and bananas I'll be making sure we got plenty in. We aren't having any extra people to feed though so that helps lol
