Preston's cyclists get green light to use pavement on busy road
Lancashire Evening Post - Jan 7, 2015
we are takeing over the pavements now ! , instead of cyclists getting killed , lets switch it to pedestrians!!!!:D0 -
^Thats a misleading newspaper headline. What is currently a pavement is being widened and segregated for separate users. Cyclists aren't "using the pavement".0

"The A6 route will be a “shared space” between cyclists and pedestrians, with those on foot having priority"
How will Preston council guarantee the priority of pedestrians?
"Since 2009 there have been two accidents on that stretch where riders have been injured after being clipped by traffic overtaking them"
Really? Two injury accidents in five years? No wonder that cyclists are so keen to point out that that cycling on the Highway is actually pretty safe!
"But measures to reduce the potential danger to pedestrians from cyclists on the shared route are also being put in place to make sure the two sets of users can co-exist safely"
What does that mean? Is it a recognition of the fact that conflict is inevitable if two completely disparate types of road user are forced to share the same space?mad mocs - the pavement worrier0 -
Given the fact that for fun , im fairly adapted at racing my bicycle up and down some of the busiest roads in the country , could well be described as a kamikaze cyclist . However I never have any intention of riding on the pavement and those that do , assuming they are above the age of 10 ,should be prosecuted for doing so. A cyclists place is on the road not the pavement. Also don't use cycle paths, not that theres a lot around here anyway. Generally they are complete a waste of time and my objective is to get to A to B as quick as possible. Which will be on the road and main roads at that.0
