Probably best not to give alcohol either, given how many rough sleepers have had issues with substance misuse.
Our local shelter have a list of suggested donations here:

Also consider a bowl and spoon, thermos flask, wind up torch..
I often pack breakfast bags for the people I see on my way to work. I have had good feedback regarding the prepacked brioche rolls (they last for months) and the little sachets of instant coffee, as apparently most coffee shops will give out free hot water if asked nicely.
I'm planning to do some Christmas bags as well - mini xmas pud, pot of custard as well as the usual stuff.0 -
You are all very kind people doing this. Could I suggest that if the person has a dog as many do, please remember food (perhaps pouches that don't need an opener) and doggie chews/biscuits to help them keep their teeth in good condition. Dog coat/blanket?0

All good ideas but I wouldn't give paracetamol. Some homeless people have mental health issues and you wouldn't want them to over dose on any tablets that you had given them.
Ive had mental health issues in the past, anxiety and depression and at no point was I a risk around paracetamol.
If someone wants to overdose on paracetamol they could do it very cheaply, they don't need to wait on a care package0 -

or razorblades as it may be used to injury themselves if they are quite downif you can find a small, cheap fold up tent that would help, my friend found a cheap pull up tent 4 1 person in MR T for about £10 and gave it to a homeless person, warm clothes, under wear, phone credit i know this seems weird but the 3 homeless guys i look out for all have pay as u go phones that they use to keep in contact with family, charities etc. maybe find out which network they are on. plasters, bandages , maybe a crossword/puzzle book, tom,pat and bear always say to me its the boredom that does it. any vouchers you may have for money off food like greggs etc, but most of the time they just want to be treated like a human being.

I second having a look at the Rucksack Project website. As well as suggestions of what to include (and what not to) they also have a leaflet you can print off to say that you have donated the goods in case the police think they've been stolen...0
