Geraldine999 - I sympathise completely with you so much on the issue of whether you will lose your job if you go BR - I'm in a similar position at the moment. I work in a bank, and although luckily my role is not FSA regulated (which would be a problem were I to go BR), I know my employers (or at least the senior staff at my place of work) are likely to take a dim view of my situation - they've made a colleague of mine on a DMP feel pretty awful, and she had no contractual obligation to report it, so I worry about what they'll say to me.

It's definitely a good idea to try and find out beforehand what the legality/policy is - I phoned HR and have thoroughly read all staff manuals etc. and have to tell my line manager if I go BR, have an IVA or a CCJ against me (No mention of DMPs though!) - the policy has recently been updated which makes me think that they must be experiencing more staff with financial problems! The thing is, I'm currently looking for another job (which they know) and was just the other week put under pressure to give them notice and I'm worried they may try and use my financial situation to justify dismissing me. I've never given them cause to doubt my integrity though and I'm pretty certain other employees in a similar situation have kept their jobs, so I'll just have to stand firm and deal with whatever happens.
I can kind of understand employers' worries re. bankrupts, but surely once you've actually gone BR you're actually a pretty good bet as you no longer have debts!

Hope you get a positive response back about your employment situation

I do have to just say (and I knw this is in no way helpful, just needed to vent over it) it really does annoy me that BRs are treated as criminal untrustworthy things that would as soon steal money as look at it - surely being pants with your own money is totally different to going 'oh, look a pile of money that isn't mine. Let's take that and go spend it on lots of things'. I know people who are against BR will argue that's exactly what we've done by taking out loan/s/credit card/s etc and now not being able to repay them, but imho crucially different at the point of a) not knowing at the time we took them out we couldn't pay them back and b) having to go through the process of applying etc and then *the bank etc giving us that money*.

However, I guess that's life all over nowadays, guilty until proven innocent as it were...
Do not feed the trolls please.

    You are in work now.

you will be amazed at how much more attractive you now are as a potential employee that when you were without work.

So keep looking for something better, reason, want full-time work, higher salary.

What is also important is that you use you friends here and outside to support you.

get people to check out your CV, post on the employment board for leads. Abovr all allow yourself to feel bettr, as that will come across when you get an interview and will help you get a better job. It may not be the first one, but you do only need one.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
