Just wondering if anyone knew any more on this?
My mate works for the job center as an adviser, so basically knows about all the benefits, he told me earlier that you can get training courses for free (if you was on JSA) as if your qualified in something your more likely to get a job, and hence get off the JSA!
Cant find anything on the website though? He told me once that he referred someone to a free 2 day course (Which normally costs about 100 quid) to train as a doorman/security. Obviously I dont want to this as a career but there seems to be a fair amount of jobs about as long as your qualified at a decent rate of pay (8 quid an hour ish) so would do nicely until I can find a career choice I want to go down. Obviously the hours would be crap, but Im used to it so wouldnt mind.
Just wondering if anyone else had heard about this... and if they knew what courses, if any are available? Tempted to take one to up my options of short term / temp work till I can find a use for this seemingly useless chemistry degree!

contact your local council and see what they say about it, its usualy they who issue doormans licences, Dont knock it as job, i did it for a couple of years or so, worked with a great bunch of lads, if your a sociable sort and like a bit of eye candy, yoll love it, just be prepared to roll your sleves up when nessasary, only down side is no drink and the possability of finding your self on the wrong side of the law if things get physical, but thats what the training is for.
if you have no joy with the council get your self into town and have a chat with the lads who work the doors, find out wich companies run the doors and find out wich are the best to work for.0 -
It's called the Training for Work scheme. I only really know about IT training but there are all sorts of schemes. You get benefits plus travelling expenses and the training company provide lunch. The courses have to lead to an industry recognised qualification thus enhancing job prospects, and there is also a placement element so the trainee gets some real work experience (in theory!). They are run by the Local enterprise councils in conjunction with training providers and you have to be unemployed a certain length of time to qualify. The job centre should have details but, having worked for a training provider, we had to really push them to get referrals. The training providers usually advertise the courses, so if you know what you want to do, find a training provider and contact them to see if the participate in it.0
