Digital Piano

I'm looking to buy my first digital piano, it has to be digital not acoustic.
This will be my first one and i'm not planning to take any piano grades but won't rule that out later on
Budget is £800 but could go to £1000 if needed
What should I be looking for?
Is second hand worth it or are there things to watch out for and does anywhere have any Jan sales each year?

Any reason you want a digital over an acoustic?
You should get a fairly decent digital for around £1,000. Yamaha Clavinova are reliable. A few of my pupils have Technics digital pianos, bought second hand, they seem just as good if not better than the Yamahas. However, I don't think they make them anymore so you'd be taking a risk with the secondhand market. On the plus side, none seem to have gone wrong that my pupils own and they picked theirs up for about £250.2018 totals:

I've had several secondhand Yamaha Clavinovas over the years and they have been great. Think hard before you waste money on fancy gizmos - £800 will buy you an excellent quality secondhand one (and you could probably get one for much less which will do the job just as well).

Brand wise you're looking at Yamaha, Korg, Casio & Roland.
Lucky you having that budget, I had to settle for a cheap german one that occasionally decides not to play the sound of the key I hit hahaI can't add up.0 -
Any reason you want a digital over an acoustic?
So that he/she can plug headphones in?
So they can move it around without calling in removers or having it go out of tune?
So that they don't need to pay a tuner every six months?
So that there's less mechanical parts to go wrong?
Etc

googler: I'm a post-Grade 8 standard pianist, reluctant to say diploma as I haven't taken it. However, there is a world of difference between playing a digital and a good acoustic which no amount of convenience could make up for.2018 totals:

Thanks everyone & apologies for not getting back sooner, I completely forgot i'd put this post up!
It has to be digital because I have three very close neighbours (flats) and would need headphones/lower volume and would never get an acoustic in the room, plus saving on tuning & i've heard small rooms and heat may not be the best environments for acoustic ones
I have been lucky that this is coming from inheritance money and I know I need to not fritter it away, otherwise I could never afford one.
Off to look at link/s , ty everybody!0 -
Sounds like all the right reasons to buy a digital. Enjoy finding one.2018 totals:
