This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all
Well I got my lie in this morning, the dog didn't wake me until 4am, rather than 3:30 like yesterday.
We'e been for a walk & now I going to try for a nap.
I've sewn in all the ends on my CAL blanket, 'll try to take a pic of it later.
I just have to finish putting the fur edges on the Santa suit & then that is ready.
I've done 3 more rows on my DD's scarf so I'm hoping to finish that soon.
Roast lamb for lunch today for hubby, I shall have vegetable soup, there should be enough soup for a couple of days lunches left over.
I shall make a batch of brownies to give to work colleagues later as well.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
Thought I was up early for a Sunday HH! Hope hubby got on ok with his overtime, can't believe the others turned it down. Things can't be that bad for them?
Marie, looking forward to hearing that you are home.
Went to !kea yesterday and bought some long curtains to cover the front doorway. There is a window above the door so it is quite high and !kea sell curtains that are a 3m drop. I put up the pole, shortened the curtains and then cut and sewed in the thermal linings. Nice and cosy but pitch black, think I will need to get a brighter lamp! The linings are really good as you can clip them onto the heading tape but I bought them with eyelets so not quite as easy, my sewing skills are limited but I managed with the machine. Feeling quite pleased I actually completed a job!
Off to Musselburgh today to visit a friend (in fact I am picking her up on the way as she is staying locally at her Dads) I will also collect DD from Glasgow on the way as she was out last night and stayed in town, hope she isn't too 'tired' - her word for hungover!
Need to call at !kea again to return a picture frame that wasn't big enough and a spare bracket, I will not look at anything else!
Hope you all enjoy Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Well done on the sewing Camelot.
The answer from one of hubby's colleagues was that the money was such a small amount compared to the amount of debt they owe that it wasn't worth the effort, unbelieveable, isn't it.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, doesn’t look that frosty, when we left mum’s last night everywhere was white and we had to defrost the car before we came home, so temperature must have risen during the night.
DH still fast asleep – not surprising really as he woke up stupid early yesterday and couldn’t get back to sleep so got up then we had DS1’s get together last night so was quite a late night. I didn’t wake up until just after 7am which is late for me – I’m now enjoying first cuppas of the day.
The get together for DS1 went very well, and everyone had a great time, food went down well, and there’s LO’s of some things, some I gave to the parents, I did bring the LO cheesecake and profiteroles home – as mum will just eat them and she’s diabetic so shouldn’t be eating that sort of food! Did a cheeseboard and it hardly got touched and majority of the cheese is unopened with a date of Jan 15 so I’ll just keep it for xmas.
Took DS1 into town yesterday to put his birthday monies into his savings account, and he discovered he didn’t have as much in there as he thought – got the cashier to do a mini statement and some evil git has scammed his bank card at some point and been taking money out of his account via online purchases – he doesn’t do any purchasing of anything on-line – so we spend ages in the bank filling in fraud forms, getting his card stopped etc, luckily they haven’t had loads of money and I’m pleased I pushed him to get a mini statement – he wasn’t going too, then he didn’t recognise some of the transactions – we’d left the bank by then and was in the street and I said do you want to go back and ask them to check on this transaction you don’t recognise? Luckily he was miffed enough at not having as much money as he thought that he said yes. It’s really hard as they grow up as he works full time, he earns his money, it’s his money so can do what he wants with it but we want to advise him in the best possible way without him feeling we’re dictating! He’d decided that he wanted to buy a ps4 and new tv for his bedroom – the console they had has been broken for months so as he is now earning he wanted to buy another – of course the bank stopped his bank card due to the fraud, so good old mum bought the ps4 and tv for him yesterday and he will pay me back – it cheered him up no end that he’d got it all set up and was able to have a few games on it before we went out.
I have a joint of pork for today’s lunch, so will just do the normal extras with it, we’re going to have a chilled day, I want to get some xmas cards written if I can and get my xmas cake marzipaned, otherwise I’m going to run out of time!
Have peaceful Sunday’s everyone x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Sharp frost here, everything is so white its almost as though its been snowing ! Very cold, I have just put food and water out for the birds and they came straight down for a drink, they must have been thirsty.
Got the bedding in the wm not sure its worth trying to hang it out today, might go straight on the airer.
We finally picked up the key to mums new house yesterday so we will have a walk round there later once the frost has cleared a bit, she is staying another week with us before going to my sisters, ive actually quite enjoyed having her here :T
Going to take mum to Mr M later as well she wants to get a few bits and I need a few meals to get us round till our xmas shopping delivery. And I need some Baileys
I have a chicken to cook for later but not doing a roast as its too near to xmas and I like to look forward to my Xmas dinner, so will do garlic crushed potatoes and some veg.
Need to write my cards today as well and get the ones posted that need it.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good Morning everyone, it was really beautiful here first thing with an extensive white frost but the temperature has risen now so it's all gone, we did have a light shower of rain a few minutes ago and when I looked out of the study window we had the most beautiful rainbow across the whole village, so pretty.
I got most of the rest of the christmas shopping yesterday, all the things that will keep and that leaves only perishables to get when DD and I get back from our trip and those I can get in the village. Presents are all sorted and wrapped, tree is up, but not decorated, we'll do that closer to the day and for the first time ever I feel organised about christmas so will be able to fly off to Berlin without the worry that being snowed in would mean a rotten christmas for He Who Knows and the rest of the family. I still hope not to be snowed in, it wasn't much fun last time even though the airline looked after us very well indeed, it was the wondering IF we'd make it back for christmas day, which I'm thankful to say we did, just!
Going to do the house today from top to bottom and make sure all is ready for family coming just before christmas and then have a nice walk with that hound after lunch and show He Who Knows where all the greenery is that I want to collect for 'Bringing in the Green' to decorate the house as he'll be collecting it this year while we're away, Nice casserole and jacket potatoes for supper this evening and lots of catch up TV to watch rather than all the sports stuff on the beeb. Have yourselves a lovely day, Lyn xxx.0 -
Hi everyone,
NMC, that's terrible - I hope he gets everything back ok. Hester, I despair when people say that, how on earth do they think they will ever get out of debt.
We got the tree yesterday and then spent several hours moving furniture because I wanted it in the living room instead of the dining room. I'm glad we did because we both like the new arrangement, it seems to give us more space so we'll probably leave it after Christmas.
have a good day.0 -
NMC how lucky you made him get a mini statement, the next time they could have taken the lot. There are some really nasty people about.
We had a similar instance with our credit card. Fortunately our CC company were on the ball enough to know that I never draw cash from my CC and stopped someone drawing £1000. Its frightening. Its the second time it has happened within a few months. Then someone tried to buy goods in the US. Years ago when we used to travel to the US quite frequently I always used to phone and tell them we were going and when we intended to return. Thankfully some one said just a minute there is not a flag on the account to say they are in the US and they stopped the payment again. Its a pain having to get the card cancelled and wait for a new one but it is so worth it.
Hester, what a stupid attitude, obviously those people do not realise that every penny helps when you are in debt. When we decided to get rid of our CC debt every spare penny we had went on clearing it....how great it was to get a statement with all zeros on it. We just use the card for fuel now and pay it off each month. Although I am grateful to Tesco that they twice stopped us from being scammed for a large amount of cash I am not that grateful!!
We had a heavy frost when we went to bed, but by the time we got up it had gone and it was raining. It cleared now, but bbrrrrr very cold. I am staying wrapped up warm inside today.
In Mr T's a couple of weeks ago they had rolled loin of pork joints. I bought one and cut two roasting joints and 4 steaks from it. We are having two of the steaks for supper.0 -
Morning all
Sharp frost down here in Kent too.
We got the day wrong for the Christmas market yesterday but saw the normal market, then a lovely walk in the woods before visiting the big farmshop, yes JackieO is is Macknade, expensive but lovely.
Planning a walk out later along the seafront whilst it's dry.
Not much to get in the way of food now for the festive period
Have a good day all, keep warm.Carolbee0
