Scotcall made home visit...

Scotcall has made a home visit; I was not in, but my husband was. They said that they could only speak to me and they would return next week and gave the company name. My husband googled the name and therefore is aware they are a debt collector.
I do have a number of debts and have been putting my head in the sand with regards to them and I can not remember which debt this is about.
My problem is not them calling, but them telling my husband who they were from as this is causing me huge problems now - are they allowed to tell someone who is not the debtor what company they are from? How do I find out what this debt is about before they come back as my husband is demanding to be there when they come back and has said very clearly that he will not believe me if I say that is was a mistake/they are not coming
I don't need marital advice, I am not in DV danger but advice about if they are allowed to say what company they are from to someone who is not on the debt

if they just said scottcall, then fine but if said scott call dca another matter but he said she said argumentDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Sorry to waste a post, but the above was probably the most illiterate sentence I've ever heard/seen in my life.....
I don't think they can discuss matters with anybody but the person in question (yourself)... There is such a thing as confidentiality and the data protection act. Unless the debt that they're chasing is secured against your house, I don't see why they would discuss debts of others TO others...0 -
I believe they are allowed to say what company they are from, as that is about them, not you. Thinking it through, if they had said they needed to speak to you, couldn't say what about and couldn't say who they were but that they would come back - would that have gone down much better? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I have called Scotcall to find out what it is and according the their records there is no account open; I did have accounts but they have been closed for a while.
No details, letter, reference number was left with my husband so not sure what is going on0 -
My suggestion, just tell your husband you have had money trouble in the past.
Should scotcall, call again, don't open the door, pass the collector a letter, through the letterbox, stating that according to there own office, they cannot trace your account.
If they should need to contact you again, then to do so in writing only, as you will not discuss business at the front door.
Do not say anything else, do not enter into any conversation with them, except ask them to leave.
They have no rights whatsoever, but if they engage you in conversation, then one thing leads to another, and hey presto they have you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I suggest you should look at your credit records with Experian et al. This is often the fastest way of getting a rough list of your debts. See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/check-free-credit-report?_ga=1.92507869.1301047759.1401450419are they allowed to tell someone who is not the debtor what company they are from?
When you get a list of your debts, you need to decide what to do about them. If you ignore them, then the next thing your husband may do is open a letter with court papers in it! You shouldn't try to tackle debts one by one, if you offer say £30 a month to Scotcall and it's all you can afford, what will you do when the next debt collector turns up? If you have no idea what you can do, it might be good to tal to Stepchange or National DebtLine about your options. You are almost certainly going to have to tell your husband, but it might be better to already have some idea what you can do, rather than just be ignoring them.0 -
Yes, they are allowed to say who they are, that doesn't violate the DPA as no identifiable piece of information about *you* has been disseminated. If they the went on to state they were chasing you for a debt with XXX for amount YYY then that would violate the DPA.0

They are not allowed at your front door. Tell them to go away if they bother showing their pathetic little face again.
Stay off the phone.
Wait for something to come in the post with more details.
Don't worry.
Door Step people are generally semi retired folk who are paid minimum wage and get commission for taking payments/setting up payment plans. They have no more powers/legal rights to be on your property than me.
These dorosteppers are sent out around this time of the year to scare people into paying.0
