Grrr....Experian! HUGE error on credit report

I applied for both my credit reports the other day (paper based versions) before I apply for my student account in August as Halifax use both credit scorers and I want to make sure I get the best overdraft possible.
So got my Equifax one and was surprised to see every account I have on there, I always thought most people's were a pretty even split between the two.
Anyway, today my neighbour catches us on the way out and hands me a letter addressed to me but at her address (no 9 instead of 8) and lo and behold it's my credit report from Experian!:eek:
They have me not on the electoral roll and basically not existing because the address is wrong! I'm so so  as this is probably why I couldn't get an Egg card or a Nationwide account which I really need. Grrrrrrrrrr.
So fellow DFW's - CHECK YOUR REPORTS!!

What a rats. How about you writ to them and threaten them with the Data Protection Act etc?
Where do callcredit think you live?
First though, get it sorted with Experian and insist that that they put up a note on all the recent searchs where you have been refused credit.
Then see if Egg and Nationwide will review their decision. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Callcredit is fine I think as I believe annualcreditreport use them and it's all okay there.
I'll definitely be sending a very strongly worded letter and insist on having a note put on.
The odd thing is that the searches aren't on there - I assume because they don't think that me at no.8 exists?
Will be contacting Nationwide shortly also.No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
I had similar problems as well - due to identity theft about 7 years ago - f***ed lots of applications with cc companies. Eventually sorted it out with Equifax (who chased the errors up with a mobile phone company but not after a lot of stress, hassle and worried times).
Take your time, be polite and explain your situation - they are generally quite helpful and want to have correct information about you to help you.'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' : Member number 632

Sorry to hear about your problem with Experian Gemmzie. It appears we simply miskeyed your address when producing your copy of your Experian report. Please accept our apologies for this. If you'd like to email me your name and credit report reference number I'll get it rekeyed and sent out straightaway. What you have received via your neighbour is not your Experian credit report as the document has been produced using a wrong address. As a result, this is not connected with your recent applications to Egg and Nationwide as I'm sure they ran their credit checks at the right address.
I'm encouraged that you thought to check your credit reports before applying for a student account - very sensible indeed. If you haven't seen it already, our free booklet 'Students and young people' might offer other useful advice to help you keep on top of your finances while you study. You can find it in our Learning Zone (www.experian.co.uk/learningzone).
Best regards

Hi...this is a nightmare for you , but you can add a note to your credit report through creditexpert.co.uk or experian directly by letter and explain the situation....you can then wait a few weeks for this to show and then appeal against the rejection for the credit card etc and explain there is now a note on your file due to the huge error...good luck.0

Whilst gratifying to see what is, obviously, a genuine apology to Gemmzie, this does pose some very serious questions as to just how dependent we are on computer based agencies.
Whilst Experian may have admitted that they are capable of committing human error, the usual response is that 'since it is on the computer it MUST be right.'
Since Experian and other CRA's make a LOT of money from selling personal details to virtually anyone who has the means of paying, I for one would like more reassurance of the accuracy of my records.
I feel, also, that it is fundamentally wrong that our personal details should be made available without our having had the opportunity to confirm, or deny, these details unless we, too, are prepared to pay for that privelege.
Nothing personal to you JJ.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Only just seen the latest replies, lost my thread.
Thanks James, I have phoned Experian and they are re-sending my report at my present address.
I still think that there is a problem though, but will have to see when it arrivesNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130
