Dry Socket

I had some relief earlier as he numbed my mouth for me, I think the pharmacist must of thought I was drunk as I was slurring my words like crazy, alas, it has worn off and I can feel the throbbing in my jaw making it's comeback.
I have the GP tomorrow, as the tramadol I took made me vomit, not sure if there is anything stronger than paracetmol that doesn't have codiene in it though.
Got a 3 day course of Metronidazole to take, hope it works.0 -
re pain regime : when I had shingles (round waist) pain was excruciating. pharmacist said I could alternate Max doses of aspirin/ibuprofen with max doses of paracetamol every 4 hours as they are different chemical structures. suggest you investigate shingles pain relief regimes to help with the pain .0

OP when i have had a tooth extraction, i normally use brandy ir whiskey to numb the pain but also to make me sleep0

I had over a week of pain following a wisdom tooth extraction, partly through dry socket, partly because he struggled to get it out and said it was one of the most stubborn teeth he had tackled.
Paracetamol and ibuprofen helped but I ended up going back and they put clove oil on it having cleaned it out for me which is probably the foulest thing I have ever tasted. Then I had a few days of antibiotics which eventually helped.
Hope you feel better soon, it's not nice.0 -

It would have been a zinc oxide/euganol dressing.
It smells (and tastes) very like clove oil - but it isn't. Clove oil would be quite irritant, and shouldn't be used, even though you can buy it!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Clove oil burns. It should never be put in the mouth as it can burn through gum. It should especially never be put where you have had a tooth out as there is bare bone there and it will burn that.
If you have clove oil bin it.0 -
Yeah he packed mine with corsydl esque stuff, does taste like clove oil though!
My mouth is 100% better - no pain, the hole still hasn't closed and getting food in there is rather grim but I'm so happy my face doesn't feel like its being kicked.
Ah see I wouldn't of taken aspirin as it thins the blood - and I wanted it to clot, probably would of been effective after it never though hah.
GP was rather drug happy when I went, trying to send me home with dehydracodiene and valiums - I was like ER NO.....I reluctantly took the tramadol and they are still sat in the cupboard.0 -
No idea what it actually was then but that's what they called it at the surgery. Perhaps I should have asked more questions.
Glad you are feeling better button moons.0
