pip's

I am on DLA and in the process of going over to PIP's. I receive the higher rate of mobility and lower rate of care. I have just had my PIP's application turned down without any interview.

They turned me down for the mobility as I put I was able to walk between 20 and 50 metres but in pain and their assessment came back I could walk between 50 and 200 How can they make this assessment which is untrue without even seeing me?

Also Planning and following a journey I put down Yes I was able but now as I have had time to think they have not stated what sort of journey. yes I could go myself to the local supermarket on my mobility scooter to get a couple of items without assistance but would be unable to do a full shop without assistance or go somewhere else in a car without assistance. Can anyone help with either of these PIP's points. I am waiting for a follow up phone call to disagree with this descision and could do with some help before I speak to them.

Sorry to hear this. Did you get turned down for both parts or just the mobility part? You really do have to be so careful when filling in these type of forms, that's why it's always better to get someone who knows what they're doing to fill them in for you.

You will need to ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration (MR)
Hopefully you kept copies of what you originally sent them? Did you send in any evidence to support your condition? For E.G DR's, Consultant, Occupational Therapist letters? If you didn't send in any supporting evidence send it in with the MR. Here's a link that explains the point scoring system to you, http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/personal-independence-payment-pip/pip-points-system
  • Thanks for the reply. I have spoken to my doctor today and the Pip's have not even approached her for any evidence of what I can or can not do. I now have an appointment with her to get all the evidence of my condition so when I get my phone call and I ask for MR I have evidence to back it up. Because they asked for my doctors details on the original form I presumed they would be contacting my doctor on my condition like the DLA people did but no they just pull ideas out of thin air and they have not even gone with the information I gave them. I shall appeal and now send as much evidence as possible. Thank you.

it has always just been the luck of the fraw regarding what evidence they use or whom they choose to contact.
i have been reassessed purely on the information written on the form.
i would say it is essential to send all the evidence you have with the claim rather than relying on them to do it for you

Nannytone is right, never ever rely on them to contact anyone on your behalf. Really it's the person applying that should send in the evidence.

I had my DLA renewed last month..I have never had to have an assessment for higher rate for both parts of DLA or ESA SG. I'm presuming because I always include an up to date letter from my GP listing my illnesses and conditions... I get the girls in the practice to photocopy all hospital letters after consultations etc, I keep a diary of all medical appointments and write dates times and name and a list of my medication. As much information as possible is the key to get the best results as possible when applying for any benefit.

They never did give assessments very often for DLA but with PIP an assessment is mostly always given.
