I don't mean to be a scrooge, but I always find these to be terribly bad value, even at half price.

Take the Gastro pub hamper for example, it states that it's £70 full price, but only £35 half price. Totting up the value of all the items inside comes to about £25 if that, so the basket itself is costing you a fortune. The biggest element of it is the shredded paper filling 3/4 of the basket.

I know it makes a nice gift, but personally I'd rather go out and buy things from the supermarket that I know the person will like, and then wrap them myself or put them in a nice gift box which would still be cheaper. The effort put into the gift also adds value to it, and you know they've got things they'll like.

I've been given hampers like these in the past, the hamper gets given to a charity shop as it is too big to do anything with, and most of the contents end up at the back of a cupboard never to see the light of day again!
