Cabot Financial & Mortimer Clarke Solicitors
I wonder if someone can advise me please . I received a letter last week from Mortimer Clarke Solicitors concerning an old Barclays debt , which Barclays sold to Cabot Financial . Barclays registered a default on me back in Oct 2008 , which in turn Cabot took over.
I have had no communication with Barclays or Cabot since . In Oct 2014 the default was removed from my credit file . However last week Mortimer Clarke sent a letter with a budget planners and threat of county court action if I failed to respond within 14 days . I sent them a response recorded delivery stating that the loan was now stat barred as it had been over six years.
They responded this morning that I made a payment to the original creditor in 12/2009 therefore not stat barred .
I have no recollection of this payment .
What can I do ?

I checked one of my old credit files and no payment has been registered against this account since june 20080 -
this seems to be a common ploy ,ask them for the account details of the payment0
