Dry (face) skin help needed!

Probably down to the weather and air-conditioning as much as stress, my skin is so dry its flaking off my face!
It feels tight after using my usual facial wash, I tried using the Liz Earle cleanse and polish and my skin stung after using it so it's not only dry but sensitised.
It's not worth a GP visit (unless it starts to bleed...) and I'd rather not use the petroleum based creams because they just make my skin feel stuffy and suffocated and I pretty much always end up with painful spots after using those sorts of creams. I've no idea though if there are any products out there that would help because my normal facial moisturiser isn't touching the sides. I've laid off any anti-aging serums until my skin feels better, over the last 2-3 weeks my skin has gotten drier and tighter and more uncomfortable.
Anyone else had dry skin and know what works? Unless I know it will cause me spots or is out of my price bracket I am willing to give anything a shot if it will help my skin feel less like it's going to peel off my face!

What about using Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream at night. The classic one would be too heavy as a day cream but you could use it at night.
Perhaps buy a small tube off ebay to try, argos do it to, I buy from them when they reduce.0 -
Maybe you need to try mask every night.0

I like sea buckthorn cream. It feels much lighter than many other creams but still moisturises well. Seems to help reduce redness too.0

I get a lot of allergy break outs on my face and so many products sting like crazy and my go to then is either vitamin E oil (from health food store or on-line, indie hf stores usually stock it, just a small bottle lasts for months, Vit E is a great healer or Rosehip Oil, I use gallons of this it is wonderful and would certainly be my desert island product if I could only take 1 item. I use A'kin or Trilogy (if I can find a good deal on *bay) and always have 1 in use and 1 in stock. Dolly84 swears by this one which I am going to buy soon (other sizes available and reputable company.
When I am out dog walking or cycling in the very cold winds I have to protect my skin and although mineral oil is totally frowned upon, I coat the sore areas with Vaseline, it does not sting and acts a barrier better than anything I have tried, I am a skin care junkie and have a lot of premium products that are supposed to work:( , I cleanse it off afterwards.- my skin is dry and I do not get spots or clogged pores though.
Good luck, I hope that you find something soon. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
using liz earle twice a day will help - but you need to keep it up and moisturise well twice a day aswell - this will keep your face moisturised and gently ex foliated.
An e45 cream is a good barrier cream that will help protect your skin
good luck with it0 -
I recently changed my face care routine and it has helped immensely against dry skin and a lot of breakouts. I also have eczema that creeps onto my face.
I clean it with Elemis Pro-Collagen cleanser - it is a bit expensive but it will last a really long time. I use both a serum (No 7 and Vichy) and moisturiser (Kiehls skin rescuer) morning and night. My skin is noticeable better, so it was money well spent IMO.
I don't exfoliate very often as I feel this causes spots. Maybe once a week or once every other week and I use a Clarins one.0 -
I would also recommend elizabeth adrden 8 hour cream - but agree only at night as it feels 'heavy' and you look very shiney
I also like clinique moisture surge, I also like aveeno which is less pricey, you can buy it in Boots"Normal is not something to aspire to - it is something to get away from" - Jodie Foster0 -
I like the Weleda range for pretty much any problem! Their 'skin food' is really good for problem dry spots that need extra attention and their normal day/night skin care ranges cover most types of skin. I use the rose one as my daily moisturiser - it is light enough for day wear but feels really nourishing.
One thing to consider is that it *might* not just be dry skin. I thought for years that was my problem but it's actually more like seborrhoeic dermatitis in places and responds better to cleansing with witch hazel (astringent) before bed then a nice moisturising cream in the day for my dry spots.0 -

If you go into a big branch of Boots and go to the La Roche Posay counter they may have some samples you can try. I find their Toleriane Ultra moisturiser works well. It's fragrance free and suitable for allergy-prone skin. I only get it when it's on offer, because like most of their products it is quite expensive but it's worth it for me, because other brands tend to bring my skin up.left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

Do not bother with all of these expensive products with added chemicals, etc - they will dry your face out even more over the long run. I used to suffer from terrible dry skin, but I bought a tub of pure coconut oil and used it every night on my face before bed. I wake up with smooth skin and a happy face every day. Definitely try it. You can buy it from Holland & Barrets, etc. But make sure it's pure - not fragranced or anything. And another plus point: you can use it as a healthy cooking oil. Two products for the price of one!0
