Ive no idea how good this tele is but Next are selling what seems a dirt cheap price for a Samsung.

Anyone got any ideas how good this really is?

click here to get to that next deal

Looking at the picture, it looks like a CRT! 102279.jpg

Right after typing above, I did a search on google, just to see how good it is.
Some mixed reviews as you would expect and it is indeed a CRT

So anyone wanting a budget tele I guess and not too bothered

Personally though, with the lcd prices dropping, I think I would still go for lcd tele.

Don't spend five pounds to dry clean a shirt. Donate it to the charity shop instead. They'll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for two pounds.

It's rubbish and it's rubbishness has been discussed on the forum before.

Terrible geometry, buy an LCD instead.

You obviously have hands on experience of these sets then?

My friend has one and it is fantastic, far better picture quality than any LCD that I have seen, and I have seen lots.

Youve seen a LOT of bad ones then, this TV may have the blackness and colour reproduction of a CRT that most LCD's cannot match but it has THE worst geometry and problems that i have EVER seen on a TV set especially at the middle bottom and corners.

this is true of the early versions of this tv..this problem however was fixed in the later versions....check forums on net to back this up..also i have seen a later version one in action and i have to say..there is no competition on standard broadcasts..it out performs an lcd hand over fist..and an hd source..my mate has ps3 conected to it and blue ray films look superb

Let me tell you something. Buying this TV is like a LOTTERY. You either get a good set with good geometry or a bad set with bad geometry and other problems so keep this in mind.

    Examples of the geometry problem:

Notice the bendy lines and blurring at the sides and this is one of the better sets shown!

Now a set that really suffers from bad geometry and this isn't an isolated case. Its common with Samsung Slim Fit TVs.

    [UPDATE]

Someone at the AVForums emailed Samsung about whether they plan to bring the newer Samsung Slim Fit HDTV sets to the UK that have the blujay chip to fix the geometry problems and here is what they had to say.

    Samsung reply:
Unfortunately, we have no information on future launches at the moment.
We know that therewill be a new launch in October this year but we have
not been informed of the full extent yet.

We hope that this information will be published on the website as soon
    as possible.

You can still buy the old CRT TVs when you want to purchase them from
    the internet.

So I advise everyone to hold on till October if you don't want a dud set.

It would also explain the lack of stock of the WS32Z409TQX/WS32Z419TQX as they seem to have been discontinued from the production line at Samsung as far as I know.

Not on the one my friend has, it has perfect geometry, blacks are black, colour is realistic, sound quality superb, unlike LCD's, where you need a degree in tuning to get a mediocre picture and the sound quality is almost a joke.

Oh and of course most LCD's have specific problems, as a quick read through on AV Forums will testify.

How bizarre? Samsung LCDs have worse sound quality than Samsung CRTs? well I never did.

This whole consumer electronics market just totally confuses me. Thank goodness for the fanboys to make these issues clear!
