He is nearly 53 and is on one of their courses again to deal with c.v writing etc but they don't seem to help him actually get a job. He reckons the course available are only for New Deal and that he asked about courses such as plumbing and plastering but they aren't for the over 50s. can this be right?
The Jobcentre is sort of right. At the moment the government only funds training in the trades industry for young people up to the age of 19 maybe up to 24 if they are lucky. Most people would have to opt for the 2-3 yrs college training.
Asda, B&Q and other stores tend to appreciate more mature workers and sometimes experience is not needed.Asda card - £220, Halifax Card- £2200
Halifax Loan - £3300, Capital Card - £500
Total owing = £6220

Hi
My sister has the same problem as your BIL, having a gap in her employment history due to depression. She has contacted places she would like to work offering herself as a volunteer and is just about to start a volunteer position with the prospect of a "proper" job when she is ready for it.
Maybe voluntary work may be a good route for your BIL to take on a short term basis, to prove that he CAN work?0 -
i have just returned to work after well over a year out-i am only 20, i was on jsa. i went into my local job centre and told them i wanted to go back to work and they did all the leg work for me. i also went to a couple of employment agencies whom did my cv and posted it off. due to these employment agencies my employer gets a wage subsidy for me for the first 6 months which obviosly make me cheap labour to them but im not losing out.
the job centre do have a few schemes available so it is worth your bil doing his research into it then telling the job centre what he is wanting.0
